LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE
The LRC has hosted two Tea Reads already this academic year and we have two more to come.
The first Tea Read was in October and we had over 20 parents and students, come and visit us in the LRC. More recently, we had a Christmas Tea Read, with some mince pies and Christmas themed books on offer.
These afternoons are a wonderful opportunity to come into school and enjoy some tea and cake, while you read with your son or daughter. It also gives you the opportunity to discuss the Accelerated Reader programme and pick-up some book recommendations too.
The next Tea Read is the 14th February and the final one of the Year is 6th June.
Accelerated Reader has been going really well this year. To date Year 7 and 8 have read 165,351,819 words, as we go to press.
Special mention should go to Anna Midgley. She is the first word millionaire this year and the first in Year 7 too.
Well done Anna. Top Readers this term include: • Amelia Fear • Rebekah Slarke • Ruby Yates • Kaya Ayling • Anna Midgley
PRIMARY OUTREACH & ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMME
Primary Outreach and Engagement has got off to a flying start this year. After the success of the Stretch and Challenge programme last year, we have run the programme again this academic year.
So far, Primary students have taken part in two workshops at Matravers school. The first was Geology, which was brilliant fun. The students were able to take part in a variety of activities. These included trying to identify the different types of rock that students had on the desks. The most popular was the sodium chloride, which the students could lick because it tasted like salt. One lucky student also got to hold some fossilised dinosaur poo.

The second workshop was The Wonder of Words. This gave the students the chance to explore the Shakespeare play, a Midsummer Night’s Dream. It was a lively session and the students were fantastic at trying out the Shakespearian language.
We have many more workshops for the students to get involved in this year. These include a Matravers’ Maths Maze and A French Café.
