Year 8 (continued)

trepidation, more often than not with smiles on their faces, but always with a positive mindset and a desire to enjoy even greater successes in the future.

Mr Bunce

“I’ve had a great start to Year 8. We’ve had a lot of opportunities to try new things in lessons, visit new

clubs and go on exciting trips – I’d say even more than we did last year. I can’t wait to keep learning and see where this year takes me.” Amber Gates.

“I have really enjoyed Year 8. So far I have already

gone on two trips, with another one lined up. I’ve done quite well in my MBU exams and have some really

great teachers. It’s looking to be an awesome year!” C J Button.

“In Term 1 and Term 2 I have done a lot of trips.

One was going to see ‘Awful Auntie’ in the theatre. It was great! Another trip was going to see ‘42nd Street’. We got a tour backstage and learnt a bit of

the dance routine. A surprise was that Mrs Henderson was in the cast! It was fantastic. In Year 8 you have a lot of opportunities to take part in after school clubs. I have done netball, basketball, dance and badminton. I was the team captain in one of the

teams and we all played well together. I got into the top six in badminton, but didn’t make it into the team, even though we were playing against Year 9. These are some of the great opportunities that you get in Matravers in Terms 1 and 2 of Year 8.” Rachel Clinch.

8.3 Team 8.3 have largely had a very successful beginning to the year. I am impressed with the dedication and determination that many of them have brought to Year 8. They are facing new challenges and greater expectations but I know that they will all ‘rise to the challenge’ and give their best efforts to whatever comes along this year. Well done 8.3, I’m very proud of you.

Mr Price So far, I have enjoyed the first two terms in Year 8. I

have loved all of the clubs to get stuck in to and all of the opportunities to represent the school. I have taken part in a basketball competition and I took part in Young Musician of the Year. I am also going to Spain

next year for Netball. My favourite part of Year 8 so far has been all of the trips, meeting new teachers and making new friends. Courtneigh Meadows

Year 8 has been exciting and definitely a new

experience. We are definitely not in Year 7 anymore!! The work has been harder which makes me look

forward to learning it all, I feel proud of what I’ve achieved so far. I hope to do well in my exams. Elsbeth Paton

I have been really impressed with how 8.4 have adapted to being in Year 8. They are no longer the youngest in the school and are demonstrating to the younger students what it means to be a Matravers student in a positive manner. 8.4 are consistently engaged with their learning and the tutor group has become a really lovely tight knit unit. 8.4 are working hard to fulfil their potential and although they found it stressful MBU1 showed them what they need to work on to achieve that. They are still a joy to have and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings!

Miss Stafford

My best bit of year 8 so far is the Awful Auntie trip to Bath. The play was really funny and I had a great time! Carrick Goodall

We recently had MBU1 which helps you to see how much learning you have done. The goals we have to reach are really ambitious but it is nice to see if you are getting closer to them! James Bissett

8.5

Being a tutor is never an easy job but I must say, although there have been trials, I have thoroughly enjoyed being the tutor of this fantastic crew of people. They have worked really hard and never fail to impress with their positive can do attitude. It is clear that many of them have worked really hard to do their best in their first set of exams this year, with many of them getting golds on their MBU1. I am so proud to be their tutor and wish them all every success for the future.

Mrs Wallbridge

This term I have studied the English Civil War in history. I have also been invited to go on an ice-skating tip for having high a high number of achievement points. I

have also been doing drama club. I am also part of the Matravers Leos club.’ Alicia Ballard

I have taken the opportunity to join cadets and learnt

how to use a paint ball gun. We have done training on obstacle courses to give us the knowledge of working together as a team. As part of the CCF we were taken Go karting, this was fun! Matthew Smith

I have been able to take part in netball and dance clubs after school. Olivia Norris

I have enjoyed in competing in basketball tournaments against other schools. Jayah Dowling
