YEAR 7

Welcome to Matravers School! Year 7 have made a fantastic transition to secondary school, I have been really impressed with their maturity and enthusiasm to learn. I understand that it can be very daunting starting secondary school but they have risen to the challenge and taken things in their stride. I have really enjoyed starting to get to know the year group; when I drop in to see them in lessons they are keen to show me their amazing work, when I see them out and about at break and lunchtime it is lovely that they come and talk to me and share stories of what they have been up to!

We really have had an action packed term and I hope you enjoy reading about everything we have been up to!

ATTENDANCE

Each week in assembly I share with the year group their attendance. We look at each tutor group’s attendance and compare each week as we go through the term. They also enjoy comparing the year group to year 8,9,10 and 11. The tutor group with the highest attendance each term are invited for a rewards breakfast!

We naturally expect some peaks and troughs and it is important that year 7 can see this. I always emphasise to them how important their attendance is and how this has a direct correlation to the progress that they make.

If your child is absent please ensure that you contact the school to inform us. If you have any concerns or wish to discuss the reasons of absence further please either contact myself or Mrs Thorne (Pastoral Manager).

Each week in assembly we also have an attendance draw where all the names of pupils who have had 100% are put into the draw. Two names are chosen each week and are rewarded with a prize! Well done to the following pupils who have won the draw since September:

Louis Starr, Jacob Brown, Oliver Pearce, Amelia Fairhurst, Abigail fielding, Aleesha Parker, Jessica Coupe, Harley Wheeler, Alice Flack, Landsley Bowerman, Rhys Geoff, Georgina Barker, Bliss Shorto- Heard, Joshua Bailey, Jessica Finbow, Abbie Pearson, Daniel Fox, Daniel Ware, Eloise Darman

CORE VALUE POINTS

Each lesson pupils are able to achieve one of the school’s core values; Ambitious, Happy, Successful, Resilient, Creative, Dynamic. Each week I add up each tutor group’s core values points and share them with the year group in assembly.

Since September year 7 have been working towards a tutor group reward trip to go ice-skating and there is always a drumroll when we reveal the value points each week! As you can see from the graph below it was right down to the wire to see which tutor group was victorious!

The winning tutor group was 7.4 who just managed to sneak into the lead! They will be attending an ice- skating trip on the 18th December- photos will be in the next newsletter!

Joining 7.4 on the trip will be the following pupils who have also achieved a high number of core value points: Leah Prior, Kirsty Groves, Courtney C-W, Dan Fox, Rosie Nutley, Jacob Broomfield, Freya Noakes, Ruby
