HISTORY CLUB - MISS STAFFORD’S ROOM (HU16), EVERY WEDNESDAY 3-4PM
I have been extremely impressed with History Club this year. They came up with the idea of creating a murder mystery room based around the Jack the Ripper murders. History club having been working hard to bring together all the aspects needed, for example; information about the suspects, creating props and researching what the victim was wearing so we can make the mannequin look more realistic. We are hoping to be able to run this murder mystery room in January and the aim is for students to come and see if they can solve the unsolvable! For the Centenary of WW1 I enlisted the help of History Club to create a display board with a variety of information on it. This includes, names of Westbury veterans, pictures from the Imperial War Museum and finally, poppies that were written on by perspective students on Open Evening. The students are working ever so hard, so hopefully we can pull off our project well!!

‘In history club we are looking at a Jack the Ripper case. We all have different roles to achieve in order to create a display that people can join in with to
learn about the murder. Also for Remembrance Day we created a display about the different war veterans from Westbury who gave their lives for us. We also
researched the different coloured poppies and what they represent, then we added them to our display.’
Aimee Duce, Year 9.
‘In History Club, during the past two terms, we have been working on a Jack The Ripper crime scene in which different suspects are suspected of killing
Catherine Eddowes, who was one of the Jack the Ripper victims. This has involved different years 7 through to 9, past ‘veterans’ of History Club and new faces. KS3 people will be able to come in and deduce who they think are the murderer and will be able to cast a vote. We hope to see you there!’

HISTORY- YEAR 7 OPEN EVENING PROJECTS (4TH OCTOBER 2018)
At the start of this academic year, Year 7 students were given an extended homework project to introduce their favourite historical event/time period in History. The aim of this was for the department to display them on Open Evening in October. The projects ran very successfully last year, with great feedback from perspective parents and pupils and this year did not disappoint.
A great amount of effort was shown by Year 7, with some amazing models created and dazzling posters. We had a wide variety of key events from the Great Fire of London, to World War One, to some more local history of the Westbury Chimney.
Students had three weeks to complete their projects and once done they were presented within class to myself, TA’s and Mr Taylor. All students were excited to show off what they had worked on. Many of the students had family connections to various events- one year 7 student has a courtier of Anne Boleyn’s in their family history! Mr Taylor then picked three winners from the projects, Archie Macpherson who did an amazing World War Two ration Box, Milissa Boddy who created a tea stained Shakespeare Poster and Kaya Ayling who impressed us with her Tudor House.
Overall, Open Evening was a great success, the projects were well received and Year 8 helpers were happy to show them off to various visitors. Prospective parents and pupils also enjoyed our Historical Poo’s, here
