they could dissect a poo (made out of flour- thank goodness!) and then had to decide which time period the poo came from- Roman, Viking or Tudor! We also had a Poppy designing event in order to commemorate the centenary of the WWI Armistice- these are now on display in our History Club display board!


The History department are very impressed with the effort from Year 7 so far. They show incredible work ethic and it has been wonderful to teach so many budding historians.

HISTORY- BATTLEFIELDS TRIP TO BELGIUM (15-16TH MARCH 2019)


Following on from our successful 2017 trip, The History department are running a two day trip to the World War One trenches in Ypres, Belgium. We will be leaving on the morning of Friday 15 March 2019 and return on the evening of Saturday 16 March 2019. We are excited to have a mix of both GCSE and A level students.


Trench warfare and its conditions relate specifically to the topics studied at GCSE and A level History. This trip will therefore, help our pupils’ understanding and knowledge as


YEAR 11 GEOGRAPHY FIELD TRIP TO SOUTHGATE CENTRE BATH


We went to the Southgate Centre to complete our GCSE fieldwork as it is a new development and local to us.


The aim of the trip was to collect our own set of primary data to support our hypothesis which was “The Southgate Centre in Bath is a sustainable city centre redevelopment”. Before the trip we evaluated our hypothesis and the area of Bath itself. We also carried out a risk assessment so we could prevent or avoid any dangers, risks or mishaps.


During out time at Southgate Centre, we carried out four activities in order to collect data to prove our hypothesis. Our first activity was to carry out three “environmental quality” surveys in three different locations within the Southgate Centre. In this survey, we scored the locations from a +2 to a -2 on different features of the landscape, for example how clean the

We will be visiting the Hooge Crater Museum that includes lifelike reconstructions of war scenes and a vast collection of weapons, outfits and photographs and Passchendaele Memorial which features true to life trench reconstructions and many more interesting places!

Our second activity was to ask five members of the public a questionnaire, including questions such as how far they have travelled and by what vehicle (which are aspects of sustainability), we also asked them if they thought the shopping centre was accessible for disabled people. Our third activity was a traffic count; within this activity we tallied the frequency of each vehicle and counted the number of occupants in each car. Next we counted the number of bike racks and the amount of bikes on them in four different locations. We finally completed a footfall count of the number of people entering the Southgate centre in 10 minutes.


When we arrived back at school, we presented out data and wrote a conclusion and evaluation of the fieldtrip. The trip was a success as we collected enough data in order to complete the investigation. We now feel ready for the fieldwork section of the exam.
