Music (continued) CHRISTMAS CHOIR 2018
One of the highlights of our year in the music department is our gigging, touring Christmas choir who get a plethora of bookings for the festive period. This year we recruited the choir from Year 7 and Year 8 and we did get such a committed bunch of students who turned up to all of the rehearsals and even came to practise in their own time. We were thrilled with them and very much appreciated their enthusiasm for the job.
As well as the school’s Christmas concert on 20th December, the choir had 3 external performances: the opening of the Christmas Tree Festival in Westbury, where we performed for 45 minutes; the Rotary Club Christmas Carol Service where we performed alongside Bitham Broom and Dilton Marsh primary schools to sing 3 songs to the audience of 200; and finally at the Bath Christmas Market.
For the Christmas market, we were so lucky – the weather had been grey, rainy and windy all morning and when we arrived in Bath is was sunny and beautiful. It was the last Friday of the market and it was very busy. You can see from this photograph that it was sunny where we were singing, outside the Abbey. Then, as soon as we came back to Matravers it started to rain again – very lucky! We got some lovely comments from members of the public and brought a lot of smiles to people’s faces. We also took our charity bucket and raised £75 for the music department which will go towards some new equipment.
Thanks again to the members of the choir who made the whole experience fun and festive throughout!
