Guessing games Objectives:


Identifying and naming objects by means of positive and negative statements. Identifying and naming objects symbolised by pictures using positive and negative statements.


Identifying and naming objects by means of simulation using positive and negative statements.


On various occasions during the day, you can play an identification and guessing game with the children.


• A. Point to objects in the classroom and ask: What is it? What is it not? This can be repeated on various occasions with different items.


• B. Point to a picture or photograph of objects and repeat the above questions. • C. Say to the children: I’ll tell you what I am, and you’ll tell me what I am not. Suppose I ama flower. If I am a flower, what can’t I be? Let’s say I am a cat. What can’t I be?


Activity Our name


Objective: Clarifying the fact that every child has a name, the name symbolises the child, and it can be expressed both verbally and by the written word.


Equipment: card or tags with the childrens’ names, one for each child.


At the beginning of the school year, we usually mark the things belonging to every child, such as towels, his suitcase, the drawer for his drawings, his locker.


Just as the child learns that every object has a name which can be symbolised by a picture or a drawing, so he can learn that the name can be a written word too.


For this purpose, we shall use the name-tags on the things belonging to the child. The case- rack can serve as an example for the activity. You can ask the children: How can you find your drawer among so many drawers?


Give the children their name-tags and help each one of them to attach his tag to his drawer or towel-peg and clothespeg. At first, the children will need your or another adult’s help in identifying their names. Soon they will learn to identify their name and their friends’ names.
