Activity Can we discover things without tasting?


Objective: To identify information specific to tasting Have 4 paper cups with sugar; salt; coffee; lemon. The child tastes the different samples.


Possible questions:


What did you taste? What does it taste like? Did it taste good?


7.6 UNIT 2 – Chapter 6 Touching and knowing how the skin feels


• Unlike the senses seeing and smelling, which can be absorbed from a distance, touching can only be absorbed directly.


• A young child finds it very difficult to look at objects without touching them. • They can touch it, squeeze it, crumble it, tear it, rub and bite it, they can bend and smooth over it.


• Children should be encouraged to touch and handle objects. Objectives: Why do we teach this concept?


1. To develop the child’s sensitivity as to how his skin feels. 2. To enable the child to identify the properties of objects through direct touch. 3. To encourage the child to describe his impressions verbally and through creative activity by touch.


4. To enable the child to express his emotional impression of the sensation of touch. Skills: What skills are learnt?


1. Recognition of properties through touch: texture, hardness, shape, moisture and temperature. 2. Identification of the objects through the act of touching. 3. Describing the impression of touch.


Concepts:


Smooth – rough Wet – dry Soft – hard Hot – cold


Language: What language is learnt?


To touch, to feel. Clauses of cause. Clauses of manner:


“How does a mother check to see if the child has a temperature?” She feels his forehead. 118
