NEW COURSE BTEC Level 2 First Extended Certificate / Diploma in Performing Arts (Acting and Dance) You’ll get a secure foundation in acting and dance, with sound practical and creative techniques and skills that transfer easily into the workplace, and a broad knowledge of the performing arts industry. It covers acting, dance, production and performance and is equivalent to 4 GCSEs.


Entry requirements: You will usually need 2 - 4 GCSEs at grade D or above, or a Level 1 vocational qualification. You will also need to attend an assessment, audition and interview at college. Occasionally an applicant without formal qualifications may be considered on merit.


Possible next steps: Specialised study on higher level courses, e.g. BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts (Acting and Dance) or BTEC Level 3 Diploma Performing Arts (Circus Arts), or level 3 Creative Media.


Length of course (weeks): 36


Hours per week: 9:30am – 4:30pm every day (except Wednesday 10 – 2pm)


Level 3 BTEC 90 Credit/Extended Diploma in Performing Arts This course runs over two years and is equivalent to 3 A Levels. It provides an opportunity to develop real work skills in acting and dance, so that you can move on to a higher level qualification in this area or into the performing arts industry. Held at the Shoreditch Campus with top facilities, tutors and practising artists, it covers a broad range of acting and dance skills delivered through workshop and studio teaching. At the end of the first year, you will complete the 90-Credit Diploma and then progress to the Extended Diploma in year 2.


Entry requirements: 4 GCSEs at grades A-C, or BTEC First Diploma (merit or above); plus a successful audition and interview at HCC.


Possible next steps: Higher Education (University degree or specialist dance or drama school), or employment as a performer, choreographer, workshop leader, community dance, arts administration or education.
