BTEC Entry Level Diploma in Vocational Studies This course gives an introduction to Health and Social Care as well as improving your communication skills in spoken and written English. It can be especially useful for people who speak English as a second language. You will study 13 different units to complete your Vocational Diploma. These units are at Entry Level 3: self assessment, health needs, improving own fitness, communication between children and adults, respecting children, introduction to creative and leisure activities for children and adults, planning for the physical care needs of children and the role of the carer at mealtimes. These units are at Level 1: promoting healthy eating in care, communication with adults and children, personal care and how the body works. You will also have two lessons a week in English language skills and one lesson of maths. There is a two week work placement where you will choose between working with children or adults.


Entry requirements: No previous experience or qualifications are required but you will have a course- specific written assessment and College interview to check your English level, as you should be working towards Level 1. You will also have an interview to discuss your suitability for the course. A Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check is required for your placement.


Possible next steps: Progression could be to a Level 1 Health and Social Care course or training for employment.
