Ÿ English Literacy Daytime (Entry Level) Ÿ English Literacy Daytime Ÿ English Literacy Evening


These FREE courses are for adults who want to develop confidence in reading, writing and spelling skills. You will gain confidence by working on the literacy you need in the workplace, at College and in everyday life. You will also work towards a qualification in Functional Skills English. Most daytime courses include a chance to gain some computer skills, and you can enrol for maths as well if you want to.


All courses take place at our Shoreditch campus and are friendly with supportive staff. Courses are at different levels and times in order to meet your individual needs.


Entry requirements: College interview and assessment.


Possible next steps: Higher level literacy or vocational College courses. Length of course (weeks): 36 (September to July)


Hours per week: 3 to 6 hours, depending on the study option you choose.

if you haven’t already achieved a grade C or above!


GCSE English: Level 2 Part Time This FREE part-time course will give you an essential English qualification for many career paths and further study. There are day and early evening options available. You will prepare for the AQA GCSE English. This is ideal for those who want to explore a range of literary and language topics but don’t want to take separate GCSEs in Language and Literature.


You will: Ÿ investigate and analyse language Ÿ experiment and use language creatively.


Entry requirements: College interview and assessment. As a rough guide, you need to be working at Level 2 English or GCSE grade D. If you think you might not be ready you can apply for one of our Entry Level English courses to develop your skills. If you are under 19 you must be enrolled on a full-time course in the college.


Possible next steps: Further study or employment. Length of course (weeks): 30


Hours per week: 4 Daytime: 10am-3pm Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday, or 4pm-6pm on Monday and Thursday (you must attend both sessions). Also see page 20 for evening and Saturday courses.
