Certificate in Counselling Studies: Level 3 This 90-hour qualification is the next step towards becoming a counsellor. You learn about yourself, counselling theory, and the therapeutic relationship. You can study for:


(a) 3 hours a week for one year (September to June) or (b) 1 day a week for one and a half terms (February to June).


Because the Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills runs from September to January, the February start date allows for immediate progression to the Level 3, (if you are successful in gaining a place).


Entry requirements: You must be at least 21 years old and complete a written application.


Possible next steps: Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and/or employment as a skilled helper.


Length of course (weeks): 15 or 30 Hours per week: 3 or 7


Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Level 4) You further develop your understanding of yourself and others, the Person Centred core model and comparative frameworks. You learn to integrate theory and practice in a workplace setting.


There is a course requirement for 100 workplace supervised client hours and 10 hours’ personal therapy, in accordance with accreditation requirements.


The Diploma provides:

Ÿ The opportunity to build your confidence and expertise as a counsellor


Ÿ A pathway onto the Open University Foundation Degree in Counselling


Entry requirements: You must be at least 21 years old and complete a written application and attend an interview. You must already have both the Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills and Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies, or equivalent.


Possible Next Steps: Degree in Counselling or employment
