Level 2 BTEC Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care This course develops Level 2 Health and Social Care skills and gives a basis for progressing to employment, or more advanced work-related qualifications or further education.
There are eleven modules: these include Individual rights, effective communication, equality, human lifespan, vocational experience, health and social care values and equality and diversity. The course runs three days a week for one year. You will also study Functional Skills maths and English or ESOL and do a work experience placement for which you will need a DBS check.
Entry requirements: Level 1 Health and Social Care or course-specific written assessment and an appropriate level of English. This course requires you to do a work placement where you will be required to work in a supporting role within a health/social care/ childcare setting. As an organisation that is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults we will ask you to have an enhanced DBS check.
Possible next steps: Level 3 qualifications in Health and Social Care or employment as a care worker or support worker with a variety of client groups.
Length of course (weeks): 36 Hours per week: 15 (over 3 days).
Level 3 BTEC 90 Credit/Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care This is a work-related qualification which develops themes required for work or further study in the rewarding Health and Social Care sector. You can study for two years, taking the BTEC 90-Credit Diploma in Health and Social Care year 1, which is equivalent to 1.5 A Levels. If you achieve an overall merit in year 1 you can continue for a further year to a full Extended Diploma which expands the specialist work-related focus of year 1 and is equivalent to three A Levels. Core units include: effective communication in health and social care, equality, diversity and rights, health, safety and security, anatomy and physiology and personal and professional development.
Entry requirements: Course-specific written assessment or 4 GCSEs at grade A-C to include English and maths or BTEC Level 2 Health and Social Care (merit/distinction). Entry is to year 1 only. This course requires you to do a work placement where you will be required to work in a supporting role within a health/ social care/childcare setting.
