Level 3 BTEC 90 Credit/Extended Diploma in IT The Extended Diploma is a two-year Level 3 course which prepares you for further academic study or entering employment as a small business computer systems developer. Assignments are industry linked. Included as an additional unit is the CISCO Academy CCNA (Part 1) Level 3.


Units include: Communication and employability skills for IT, computer systems, information systems, impact of the use of IT on business systems, procedural programming, maintaining computer systems, installing and upgrading software, digital graphics, spreadsheet modelling, software design and development, organisational systems security, e-Commerce, computer networks, systems analysis and design, project planning with IT, database design, human computer interaction, games design and website production. You will also undertake a substantial amount of laboratory practical work which requires writing as part of your course assessment. Depending on your interest and performance in the first year, you will join either the software development pathway or the IT and business pathway for the second year. By the end of the first year you will be expected to have completed three core units and 15 optional units.


Entry requirements: 4 GCSEs at grade C or Level 2 BTEC.

Level 3 BTEC 90 Credit/ Extended Diploma in Interactive Media: Edexcel Exam Board This course covers the practical skills required to work in the digital, web, television, video, radio and film industries as well as core theoretical knowledge. The programme combines practice and theory to develop creative skills using high specification Apple Mac computers and industry standard software. You work in film, games design, 2D and 3D modeling, 2D traditional Animation, 3D Digital Animation, Print Design, Web Design, designing for mobile interfaces and Interactive Multimedia. Software used includes Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash, After Effects, Premiere and Maya.


Core units include: Visual recording in art and design, materials, techniques and processes in art and design, ideas and concepts in art and design, communication through art and design and contextual influences in art and design. You will also learn video camera techniques.


Assignments are employer-led and industry links are made through visits and guest speakers.


Entry requirements: 4 GCSEs at grade A-C. Plus, in addition to showing a genuine interest in the subject, you will need to show a portfolio of your work.


Possible next steps: Higher Education or employment within the media industry.
