ELLUI

The main purpose of my first visit to the Korean capital earlier this year, was to attend to KOBA Show. Once there, my hosts quickly took me under their wings. After the first day, I was invited to experi- ence a traditional Korean barbeque dinner, washed down with the national beverage, Soju. And by the final day, I had been offered the chance to visit, what can only be described as a super club by Seoul standards. Of course, I was delighted with this opportunity. Soundus was my host for the late afternoon visit. Ellui nighclub is located inside the Ellui Hotel in Seoul’s Gangnam-Gu district. We entered the club from its underground car park, so it was difficult to gather a first impression. However, once the ‘official’ tour began from the club’s entrance, Ellui started to unfold before my eyes.

Visitors to the 4,000-capacity venue enter Ellui through a long pas- sageway. The Ellui experience begins as clubbers line up to pay the entry fee. The corridor has been fitted with eight Funktion One F55 compact loudspeakers - which are powered by four MC² T4-250 amplifiers - play music from the Main Room. This allows guests to get into the party spirit from the very moment they set foot in the building. But that is just the beginning.


The story started with Eddie Son, who was hired by the hotel, to act as Director during the club’s creation. Having left Korea and discovered a passion for audio during his travels, upon his return, Eddie was keen to implement his experiences in his homeland. He wanted to make a statement. He said: “The club scene in Korea has only been going for 10 years, people deserve to have this venue - to have fun.” There are five sections to Ellui: the Main Room, the Black Zone, the White Zone, the Sky Zone, and the VIP Rooms.
