whole club and the Penthouse Suite, complete with its glass stage for topless dancing, which lights beautifully from above, using silver Robe ColorSpot 170 ATs, Anolis ArcWash 136LTs and in a tribute to pure classic disco - a Robe ClubRoller 150 CT. Not forgetting the two Anolis ArcSource 6 RGBs with 25° lenses lighting the bubble pole. All the Anolis fixtures are powered by a selection of different Anolis ArcPower supplies. Three separate control systems are used throughout the venue - a Jands Vista PC version for the DigitalSpot, a Madrix system for the StageQubes and two Martin Professional LightJockey PC controller, which deals with all the architectural and entertainment lightsources. Video throughout the venue runs from a Madrix Pro 64 ArtNet system, supplying content to 10 LG LED video displays, ranging from 42-inch to 55-inch. The daddy of the video range is the Panasonic 85-inch display, which David chose with a specific purpose in mind: “Obviously, the 85-inch Panasonic is something out of the norm. It’s not a 42 or a 50-inch. We went with that because when you go in that back room, I wanted it to have the appearance of a bay window. The club is at the threshold of Lake Tahoe, so in snow ski season I wanted them to be able to do some snow ski stuff. If they had a private party, or even a corporate event, they could tap into it.” With the visual spectacle taken care of, the venue needed an audio specification that maintains the dominator of quality. David specified a range of trusted brands, drawing on his knowledge of the wider subject of entertainment venues. In total, 14 Electro-Voice FRi-2082 two-way, ultra compact speakers, with dual 8-inch woofers, have been deployed, together with four FRi-181 18-inch bass speakers. Six McCauley units have been specified - four ID2.112 speakers and two AC355 bass enclosures - along with 16 MG Audio MG-9092 speakers and 10 JBL Control 26C ceiling speakers. Amplification is supplied by Crown XTi 6002, XTi4002, XTi1002 and 180A amplifiers, with BSS Audio processing. The DJ booth is kitted out with two CDJ-2000 CD decks and a Shure Beta 58A microphone, which are hooked into a Pioneer DJM-700 DJ mixer. For Florida based David Chesal, the entire project entailed about 18 months work from start to finish, and has been one of his most rewarding and satisfying to date in terms of delivering a complete solution. The actual physical installation of the lighting elements took place over a three month period, with six engineers working under his supervision, crew chiefed by Sound Stage’s Joe Florio. For David, to be involved in a project of this magnitude and profile from the ground up was “an incredible opportunity” to show how imagination and practicality can be coupled to create a fully immersive lit environment with huge impact. With spectacular results and plenty of positive feedback, early commercial indications suggest that the creativity, design and engineering that went in to producing a unique ambience is paying off.
