VENUE 071

“The important thing is the punch, the pressure. You have to stand on the dancefloor and feel your feet starting to move. I am totally happy”

quickly, safely and easily change the angle and height, which in turn changes the feel of the room. For GLP, the new venue became something of a testing ground. Thanks to the strong relationship with Charly2000 GmbH and proximity to its headquarters, the lighting company has been given the opportunity to showcase its latest products in a fully operational environment. The scenario is mutually beneficial. GLP’s Sales Manager, Dejan Hajdukovic, explained: “We have new products that are ready to launch, so he has the possibility to hang them in his club, give us his opinion - if it’s good, if it’s usable, or if he has some ideas for modifications. For him it is good because he always has new equipment in his club.” For Christian, it wasn’t just about having the latest products providing a cutting edge visual, there was an environmental motivation too, as Oliver Braun revealed: “Christian said he wanted to have the latest technology, and also he doesn’t want to constantly be changing light bulbs - he thinks halogen is out of date - he wanted to have LED. GLP is nearly all LED, and b&k and also Varytec, they are nearly all LED.” In fact, somewhere in the region of 300,000 LEDs have been used throughout the venue. A substantial amount are impregnated

into the 400 metres of Kapego LED strips used to illuminate edges and curves, in static fixtures like the 20 Varytec Par Cans and in the various GLP moving heads. The GLP stock includes Impression 240 XL - boasting almost three times as many LEDs as the original Impression - and the little brother in the series, the Impression 90. The latest Impression fixtures each possess more speed and less weight. A number of GLP Ypoc 575 moving heads have been installed, offering an advanced optical system and high light output. Then there are the four Patend Light 700 roto-head fixtures, which are capable of a pan and tilt rotation of 360°, as slow as one rotation in eight minutes, or as fast as seven rotations per second. Four GLP Startube 4 HiRes units offer additive colour mixing and high resolution dimming. Lighting control is handled by a a GLP Creation console, which disposes of a 533-MHz-CPU and works with a LINUX operating system. It controls up to 2.048 DMX channels that can be arbitrarily distributed on any DMX device or dimmer, and works with a 16-bit resolution. Having experienced some of the biggest and best club sound systems throughout the world, Christian was clear about what he wanted in terms of sound, but needed some trusted consultants to allow him to achieve his goal.
