A hospitality career in the booming serviced apartment industry!

Did you know that the UK serviced apartment sector is one of the fastest-growing segments of the UK hospitality industry? Set to double in size in the next

two years, these are exciting times for this dynamic young industry, which is expanding so rapidly that the option to stay in a serviced apartment is now a reality in every city in the UK. The global expansion is equally exciting, as more and more consumers prefer this flexible way to stay. The largest international owner

operator – The Ascott Limited – is on track to double in size to 80,000 apartments by 2020, including a major new London opening in 2019. Within Europe, Staycity (1,400

apartments) is also expanding rapidly, opening new aparthotels in Birmingham and York this year with plans to expand to over 4,000 apartments by 2018. SACO The Serviced Apartment

Company operates 900 apartments across the UK and has very ambitious future growth plans with the launch of

its aparthotel brand – Locke – in 2016. And these are just a few examples.

So what is a serviced apartment? Serviced apartments offer facilities much like a traditional hotel but with the added space, convenience and privacy like at home, so you can enjoy living like a local when travelling. Self-contained units of all sizes are

on offer, from studios to three- or four- bedroom properties. There will also be a fully equipped kitchen so the guest can prepare a snack or cook a meal. Look at our video to find out more, at www.theasap.org.uk

What career opportunities are on offer? Careers in the serviced apartment sector are among the most exciting in the hospitality industry. The sector is going from strength to strength and attracting top talent due to its diverse and commercially engaging nature. Well-established graduate

programmes are up and running

in a number of serviced apartment operators, but whether you’re looking at an internship, a placement year or a postgraduate programme, bespoke programmes can be developed for those willing to be flexible, work hard, get on with people, take on extra responsibility, make decisions and use common sense – the cornerstones of a good career in the hospitality industry.
