JULY TO SEPTEMBER This quarter will be all about the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games – with the opening ceremonies taking place on July 27th and August 29th respectively. Key licensees in the toy sector including Golden Bear, MV Sports, Winning Moves, Hornby, Magmatic and Spearmark among others, will all be looking to further maximise sales opportunities of their various products. It’s also shaping up to be another big summer at the box office, and all eyes will be on the return of Batman in July when The Dark Knight Rises hits cinemas. Following the huge success of The Dark Knight (which, at time of writing, was at number ten in the all- time worldwide box office with just over $1billion), Warner Bros Consumer Products is really looking to maximise the potential of the franchise. “Batman is a massive consumer products franchise, a brand that works for all ages,” says Paul Bufton, UK general manager at WBCP. “We will be shouting about the potential of the franchise as a multi- demographic, multi-category proposition and, importantly, why Batman can work and is working for a younger age group.”

Mattel is set to have another busy quarter – as well as Batman, the firm will also be readying the launch of plush, figures, role-play and play-sets for new Disney pre-school property,
