236 LICENSING 2012 GUIDE
APRIL TO JUNE Rastamouse was one of the surprise breakout success stories of 2011, and DHX Media will be looking to build on this in 2012, with extensions into primary categories, new episodes and live appearances. TV tie-in books from Macmillan will arrive this quarter, supporting Character Options’ toy line, plus an official magazine and second DVD from Universal. “2012 is the year of the Mouse,” Angeles Blanco, director licensing at DHX Media/Wildbrain, confidently tells ToyNews. “We have product launches in key categories in Q1 and Q2, with additional toys and DVDs, books and nightwear in stores, and many more products to come. Partners are on board for bedding, outdoor toys, room décor, luggage, posters and apparel.” Another new brand looking to make its mark this year is Monsuno. The boys animated action adventure property is a joint venture between Jakks Pacific and Dentsu Entertainment USA, with FME and The Topps Company. Jakks is the master toy for the property, with GP Flair introducing Monsuno toys to the UK market with categories across battling toys, role-play, collector cases and combat sets. Nickelodeon is on board as international broadcaster and will be airing the series around the world from spring. From newcomers, to an evergreen, and the Harry Potter Experience will officially open its doors at Leavesden
