Programme Modules This award includes a number of modules including Introduction to the Retail Industry, Introduction to Economics and Retail Finance, Communications, Management Principles, Customer Care, Consumer Behaviour, Accounting , Learning to Learn, Marketing Principles, Management Information Systems, Retail Property Development and Visual Merchandising Design and Atmospherics, E-tailing, Contemporary Issues in Retail Management, Fashion Retail, Training for the Retail Industry, Introduction to Business Law and Enterprise, IT and Business Maths and an international language.


Career Opportunities


Successful candidates can expect to work as managers or supervisors in small and medium retail outlets. This programme was developed in conjunction with retail leaders in the west of Ireland.


Other Essential Information • After the second year examinations, students undertake an accredited thirty week industrial placement, organised by the LINKS office in conjunction with the student. A relevant industry project must be completed in respect of this placement.


• If students are considering an international career, the school would encourage students to study an international language during the three years of study and to complete their international placement in a location that supports the development of the language.


Follow-on Studies


Students who are successful in their final examinations will be considered for entry to the final year of the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) programme and to the BB (Honours) Business Studies.

Public Relations Programme Code: GA376 NQAI level: 7 | Places: 45 | Duration: Three years


Why study Event Management with Public Relations? The aim of this award is to provide relevant, professional education for students on all aspects of the planning, marketing and management of events and public relations programmes in this multifaceted industry.


Programme Modules The modules cover three main themes: Event Management: Introduction to the Events Industry, Hospitality Operations, Festivals and Special Events, Conference and Meeting Planning and Events Planning. Public Relations: Introduction to Public Relations, Public Relations Techniques, Public Relations Management and E-PR. Business: Management Principles, Economics, Marketing, Accounting, Enterprise Development, Strategic Management, Human Resource Management and other elective choices.


Career Opportunities


Graduates with this qualification can expect to find employment in a variety of event, PR and entertainment enterprises including conference and convention centres, charitable non-profit organisations, national and regional tourism organisations, hotels, public relations firms, event management agencies, sports and leisure centres, community development organisations, arts and music festivals, multinational companies and public sector organisations. In addition, there are opportunities for graduates in consultancy, self- employment, research and postgraduate education.
