Graduate Profile
Eilish Coffey, Bachelor of Business Accountancy Stream.
I began my studies in GMIT Castlebar in 2003 as a mature student. I chose the Business Studies course as it had a broad range of subjects in the first and second years of the course which gave me the opportunity to decide which area to specialise in third year. I decided that I wanted to study the accounting and finance
modules and so did the Bachelor of Arts in Accounting & Financial Management in year 3. I carried on from there to do the Honours Degree in Business Studies, again focusing on the Accounting and Finance subjects.
Since leaving GMIT I have been working in an Accountancy & Tax Advisory practice and have found the skills and knowledge I gained while studying there of great assistance to my job. I have since qualified as an Associate of the Irish Taxation Institute which is a professional qualification. This qualification consists of twelve exams in total of which I was exempt from three due to studying them at GMIT. Overall I found my experience of studying at the Castlebar campus to be a very positive one. There is a good mixture of mature and young students in the college. The lecturers are very approachable and are always willing to help and encourage the students.
