Orla Muckian

Coming from Dundalk, I attended the Heritage Studies programme for the period 2001-2005. Subsequently, I went to UCD to do the Master of Library Studies for a year and then I got a library assistant position in Griffith College. I have just secured a position with Louth Public Library in Dundalk, so I am back home again!

I really enjoyed my time in GMIT and had the great pleasure of learning German as part of the programme.

Heather Mills

After graduating with the BA in Film & Television in 2007, I secured a full-time position in animation-production with Magma Films, Galway. I was able to transfer the skills and experience I had gained from the programme, particularly in the areas of production, scripting and audio, directly to my new position. What was, and still is, invaluable is having worked as part of a crew to produce our own films and having the guidance of experienced lecturers who have all worked or still work in the Film and TV industry.

Laura Brennan I completed the BA (hons) in Fine Art in June 2007 specialising in paint. Initially I came to study paint in GMIT in 1999 and due to work and family commitments I applied to do the BA in Art & Design part time. In 2006, I commenced the one year BA (hons) in Fine Art which is a full-time course. The tuition on both courses was invaluable and tutors maintained a good balance between instruction and creative interaction with students.

Since qualifying in June 2007, I have exhibited in a graduate exhibition in Glór Arts Centre in Ennis, Co. Clare. This year I am showing in a group exhibition of contemporary Irish painting in the RHA, Ashford Gallery and have been commissioned to write the catalogue essay for the exhibition. Killkenny Arts Office has invited me to give a solo exhibition this September in Killkenny. I hope to return to college to do an MA in due course and in the meantime keep painting.

Michelle Ruane, B.A. (Honours) in Fine Art (Painting).

I attended GMIT from 2004-2009 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Fine Art (Painting). I found the course to be very interesting. There is a great range of highly experienced tutors, from academics to practicing artists. Cluain Mhuire is a wonderful place to study art and to embark on exploring your own creative identity. Subsequently, I got a job as a tutor, in adult education, delivering FETAC accredited Art and Design programmes. I found this very rewarding and went on to do a Diploma in Community Development / Community Education in NUI Galway. I now work with a number of community groups, delivering accredited and non- accredited courses. I hope to return to college to do a Masters in Art Education in the near future.

Vivienne Martin Textile/Jewellery Artist

Since Graduating from GMIT in 2009, I have specialized in Jewellery, (both commercial and art). I have been invited to show my work in numerous exhibitions both nationally and Internationally, namely UK, Europe and Australia. My work has been recognised through a number of awards and nominations which have been very encouraging and help to keep me motivated.

I am currently based in Galway, working in a studio space that is shared with other like-minded creatives. Whilst selling my work through retail shops and fairs, I also give textile-based workshops from time to time, from National school to adult level, such as PLC and teacher in- service training (PDST groups), using textile skills that I have learned predominantly in GMIT. Many of the textile skills that I have aquired were learnt during the Textile course in GMIT, which in turn allowed my own style to develop. Upon graduating, the course also gave me an invaluable opportunity to showcase my work alongside my fellow students at London New Designers, UK, which opened up further opportunities that would not have been possible otherwise.
