A WORD FROM THE PRESIDENT GMIT is waiting for you! Have a look at our prospectus and think what you would most enjoy studying. Now you have a chance to concentrate on your interests and to build a future around your talents. When you make a success of any programme you study in third level, all the evidence shows that this will improve your life-long chances of having a good, interesting job. Of course, you can expect to change jobs often so what you study at college is just the backbone of the body of knowledge you will build up over time.

I hope that your experience in GMIT will help you build a passport to your future employment and that it will also encourage you to think of being an employer rather than an employee. As Ireland and the world emerge from the recession, there will be many opportunities to build new enterprises. These enterprises will be very different from the models we used in the past. Business of all kinds will be very global but people will still want services and products in real time and in a real place. There will be lots of opportunities for you.

Your time in third level will also give you a chance to build a life for yourself. This is the best time to try new things and discover the talents that you didn’t know you had. This is your time and I hope that GMIT will help you to go confidently in the direction of your dream.

Michael Carmody, President

Caith súil ar ár réamheolaire agus déan machnamh ar an rud ba mhó ba mhaith leat staidéar a dhéanamh air, ó tharlaíonn deis agat díriú ar na hábhair is spéis leat agus todhchaí a bhunú ar do chuid buanna. Má éiríonn go maith leat i gclár ar bith a ndéanfaidh tú staidéar air sa tríú leibhéal, léiríonn an fhianaise go léir go gcuirfidh tú leis na féidearthachtaí ar feadh an tsaoil agus go mbeidh jab maith suimiúil agat. Ar ndóigh féadfaidh tú bheith ag súil go n- athróidh tú jabanna go minic agus mar sin níl sa rud a ndéanfaidh tú staidéar air le linn duit a bheith ar an gcoláiste ach croí chorpas an eolais ar a dtógfaidh tú tuilleadh le himeacht ama.

De réir mar a thagann Éire agus an domhan amach as an gcúlú eacnamaíochta, beidh deiseanna go leor ann fiontair nua a thógáil. Is éagsúil ar fad a bheidh na fiontair seo leis na heiseamláirí ar bhaineamar leas astu san am atá caite. Beidh gach cineál gnólachta an-domhanda ach is seirbhísí agus táirgí i bhfíoram agus i bhfíóráit a bheidh ag teastáil ó dhaoine. Beidh neart deiseanna ann duit.

Cuirfidh do thréimhse ama sa tríú leibhéal faill ar fáil duit saol a thógáil duit féin freisin. Is é seo an uair is fearr duit triail a bhaint as rudaí nua agus teacht ar na buanna nárbh eol duit a bheith agat.
