CAO Applications
Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology offers a wide range of certified programmes at higher certificate, bachelor degree and honours bachelor degree levels. Programme structures allow students great flexibility in deciding upon a career path. Students may elect to complete their studies after two years and graduate with a higher certificate or, having achieved adequate grades, they may progress to degree and/or honours degree level.
Application
Applications for year one of all full-time Higher Certificate (Level 6), Ordinary Bachelor degree (Level 7) and Honours Bachelor degree (Level 8) programmes are made to:

* Late applications from mature students: • Late applications will be considered but interviews/ assessments may take place later than for on-time applicants.
• Mature applicants may also apply for any programme advertised with available/vacant places.
• Applicants are advised to contact the Admissions Office in advance of applying to CAO.
** Late applications are not accepted for: • Restricted programmes requiring portfolio submission (Bachelor of Arts in Art and Design).
• Nursing degree programmes - Mature Codes.
• Applicants with a qualification other than the Irish Leaving Certificate, FETAC Level 5/6 awards, Northern Ireland or British GCEs/GCSEs.
Mature Applicant Guidelines
GMIT welcomes applications from mature applicants: EU nationals aged 23 on or before 1 January, 2013. A quota of places is reserved for mature applicants on each programme.
Mature applicants
• Do not have to meet the Leaving Certificate entry requirements
• Are assessed on the basis of their previous education, work experience and demonstration of ability and competence to undertake the programme

• Will be called for interview and to an information and advisory session in May, which will be used to rank applicants where demand exceeds the available places on a programme
• For Restricted programmes, must pass the portfolio assessment - the score will be aggregated with the interview score for ranking purposes
Mature Nursing Applicants
• Applicants must undergo the NCC Written Assessment. Successful applicants will then be ranked in order of merit for each course applied for.
