Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Culinary

Why study Culinary Arts Management? The primary aim of this one-year add-on honours degree is to allow students to develop their cognitive, creative and business acumen in their chosen career path of Culinary Arts. The specialised subjects are all interlinked, designed to create a student with an entrepreneurial orientation. Students will critically apply the principles of the product development to create new business ideas and will be given a unique opportunity to develop a meaningful business plan related to these business ideas.
Programme Modules This programme includes a number of modules – Product Development, Enterprise Development and Business planning, Management Accounting, Marketing Management, Strategic Management, Employee Resourcing and a number of exciting innovative electives such as Gastronomy, Web Design and Culinary Specialisms.
Other Essential Information This programme is open to all graduates who have achieved a Level 7 award in Culinary Arts. Direct applicants should apply to GMIT Admissions office. Current GMIT students should submit an Internal Application online.
Career Opportunities
Upon successful completion of this programme graduates will progress to positions of responsibility/management within various spectrums of the food industry such as Chef de Partie positions or independent food operators.
Bachelor of Arts in
Culinary Arts (flexible learning) NQAI level: 7 | Places: 30 | Duration: Three years Apply directly to the Admissions Office, GMIT
Why study Culinary Arts (flexible learning)? The primary aim of this part-time Culinary Arts degree is to develop higher technical and artistic knowledge amongst qualified chefs who are working in the industry. This programme is delivered over three years, one day per week.
Programme Modules This course covers a number of modules including Advanced Culinary Skills 1, Advanced Culinary Skills 2, Advanced Pastry 1, Advanced Pastry 2, Gastronomy in the Modern World, Cost Management in Culinary Enterprises, Culinary Leadership and Training, Food Product Development Techniques, Research Methodology and Synoptic Study.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must have successful completed aHETAC Level 6 award Higher Certificate in Culinary Arts or its equivalent and have at least one year’s relevant work experience. All prospective students will be invited to partake in an interview for final selection.
Career Opportunities This award offers a comprehensive range of subjects to those who wish to continue their studies in culinary arts, on a national and international basis, leading to senior positions such as Head Chef, Executive Chef or Kitchen Manager.
Other Essential Information
It is a requirement of this programme for students to work full- time in the hospitality industry throughout their three years of study.
Follow-on Studies
Students who are successful in their final examinations will be admitted directly to the Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Culinary Arts Management (New Add on 2012) or the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Hotel & Catering Management, Year 4.
