BURGER KING PROMOTION FOR POKEMON IN NORTH AND
SOUTH AMERICA
Pokémon USA and Burger King recently announced a promotional partnership that will feature collect-
ible premium Pokémon Trading Card Game cards and accessories in BK Kids Meals across North
and South America. As part of the promotion, participating Burger King restaurants will offer two
Pokémon TCG cards, featuring fan favorites such as Dialga and Palkia, and a Pokémon themed ac-
cessory with each purchase of a BK Kids Meal. Over the course of the promotion, participating
Burger King restaurants will be the only place to obtain each of the 12 different Pokémon trading
cards and six different accessories, including Pokémon card holders, lenticular rockers, and card
frames. The promotion will launch for three weeks in the US and Canada in June, followed by
a four week program that will launch in South America on July 20.
The program will be supported by Burger King. through a fully integrated marketing campaign
that includes television advertising, in-restaurant merchandising, custom packaging and an online
minisite.
“The popularity of these internationally recognized characters is a perfect fit with the BK
Kids Meal audience,” said JC Smith, marketing director at Pokémon USA. “This is a big year
for Pokémon and our partnership with Burger King Corp. will fit nicely into a calendar full of
exciting Pokémon events.”
The premiums are based on the new Pokémon TCG: Platinum, the latest installment of the best-
selling Pokémon game, featuring 130 cards. The release of Pokémon TCG: Platinum coincides with
the launch of Pokémon Platinum Version for the Nintendo DS system, which launches this Spring.
Pokémon is one of the most successful children’s franchises in history and the #1 collectible trading card game of all-time.
The trading card game boasts 374 percent sales growth in the US since 2005 and is sold in more than 30 countries across
the globe. The Pokémon video game series has sold more than 186 million units worldwide through September 2008,
with many more expected for the release of this spring’s Pokémon Platinum Version.
