New ingredients from Merck in Ronacare Range

Merck KGaA has introduced two new cosmetic ingredients: RonaCare Baobab and RonaCare Hibiscus. These are both developed from nutrient- rich superfoods, respectively the baobab fruit and the hibiscus flower, whose effects can also be used for the skin. Applications are envisaged in multiple topical products, from daily skin care to dermocosmetics. “RonaCare Baobab provides

strong protection of skin matrix components, especially elastin and collagens, and reduces skin irritation. RonaCare Hibiscus also minimises skin irritation, supports the care of sensitive skin, shields

from oxidative stress, protects collagens from degradation and increases skin cells’ vitality,” the company said. Both ingredients are Halal-

certified and vegan, are of 100% natural origin and meet the

COSMOS-standard for organic and/or natural cosmetics. Merck added that they fit into a wider range of botanical- and marine- derived cosmetic actives that its Surface Solutions business unit will launch in the next months.

New format from Colonial

Colonial Chemical has released SugaDet LSDG, which it describes as “a liquid, easy-to- use blend of a mild, high-foam sulfosuccinate and a mild, high-foam alkylpolyglucoside”. The sulfosuccinate portion is normally supplied as a semi- solid paste, making the blend particularly useful for formulators incorporating a product that can be tricky to dispense or those interested in reducing the carbon footprint of their

Plant collagen from Lipoid

Lipoid Kosmetik has launched PhytoCollagen, a 100% natural collagen alternative derived from the acacia tree. This is a COSMOS- certified, vegan and sustainable material that can replace animal- derived or synthetic collagen in anti- ageing and moisturising cosmetics. As well as being a plant-based, sustainable alternative, Lipoid

said that PhytoCollagen offers improvement in structural and age-related skin parameters and in skin hydration. It is also claimed to be a “functional substitute entirely mimicking the cosmetic benefits of animal-derived collagen, which makes it perfectly suited for the modern, conscious beauty consumer”.

manufacturing by designing cold- mix formulations. SugaDet LSDG is derived from

sustainable plant materials and has a very high bio-renewable carbon content. “The combination is optimised to generate copious amounts of foam with dense bubble structure for an extremely luxurious feel,” Colonial said. Applications include sulfate-free cleaners, aerosol foams, pump foaming cleansers and as a syndet bar additive.

Palm-free grade from Cosphatec

Cosphatec has added Cosphaderm LA-T palm free (INCI: Levulinic Acid, Glycerin, Sodium Levulinate, Aqua) to its portfolio. The glycerine used in this is derived from rapeseed oil, which can be grown in in temperate climate zones rather than sourcing palm oil from the tropics. The blend includes natural

levulinic acid and its sodium salt, dissolved in water with glycerine. It is water-soluble and is said to be “very easy to use, offering antimicrobial efficacy up to pH 6”. For maximum antimicrobial efficacy, the company recommends combining it with ingredients that have strong properties against yeasts and moulds. Separately, Cosphatec’s

tocopherols, Cosphaderm T-70 Non-GMO Eco and T-50 Non- GMO Eco (INCI: Tocopherol, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil) have been awarded COSMOS- certified organic status, allowing easier and faster certification of organic products. These are described as the most powerful natural antioxidants.
