Welcome to the March 2022 edition of Personal Care Global magazine. One of the features

this month is on Hygiene. This is certainly not one of the high-tech sectors of our industry, let alone the most glamorous, but

it is arguably one of the most important right now and for very obvious reasons. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit us,

the much vilified pharmaceuticals industry responded with extraordinary speed and skill – and with good old-fashioned chemistry – to deliver multiple vaccines that have made possible the return to something approaching normality that we are seeing now. Flying under the radar screen but equally

importantly in its own way, the personal care industries and others similarly delivered a massive repurposing and ramp-up of both capacities and capabilities to make the hand gels that have become no less important in our daily lives under COVID. It is largely because of these developments that in-person events started to come back last autumn. That enabled me to attend the

In-Cosmetics Formulation Summit in London

last November to source much of the content for the Hygiene feature. The development of hand sanitisers at speed and the emerging technologies behind them were some of the key themes at that event and this month we feature my own write-up and an article by Mauro Bleves of Laboratorios Maverick on how they made their contribution. At the time, it still looked touch and go on

whether big exhibitions could come back in the spring but now In-Cosmetics Global is definitely going ahead in Paris on 5-7 April and the whole Personal Care Global team is looking forward to seeing you there. This month also features an extended preview from the organisers and highlights of what key exhibitors are showing at their stands. I myself will be using the event to source ideas

for future issues, but for those we need to get organised before then, here is a quick reminder of the areas of focus and the deadlines for first drafts: ■ June: Testing, Trending Technologies, Hair Styling (8 April) ■ July: Anti-Ageing, Preservatives, Global Regulation (9 May)

Please get in touch with your ideas. See you in Paris,
