Bio-based additives launched


Scott Bader Co Ltd has launched Texique; a new range of bio- based additives for personal care formulations. The new Texique products; HE10 and HE20, are innovative high performing thickeners and emulsifiers for the personal care market, manufactured from at least 60% naturally derived ingredients, none of which are animal-based. With sustainability and the environment in mind, Texique products are also completely ethylene oxide free making them the ideal choice for


achieving the perfect thickness of personal care products. Part of Scott Bader’s


Functional Polymers range, Texique thickeners and emulsifiers are cold processable with good emulsification properties and good pH stability. They are supplied pre-neutralised and ready to use with no preservatives or animal derived raw materials. The bio- based ingredients in Texique products are plant-based, and they also feature renewable oil and surfactant.


First CBD producer in Italy


Indena has been authorised by the Italian Ministry of Health and Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) to produce cannabinoid-based cannabis extracts. Indena will produce pharmaceutical grade cannabidiol (CBD) for the global market for clinical and commercial use. Indena is the first company

in Italy to receive authorisation from the Ministry of Health to manufacture cannabinoid- based cannabis extracts. The approval process continued and Indena has also received authorisation from the AIFA, making it one of the few companies in the world able to


produce cannabidiol (CBD) for the pharmaceutical market. CBD is an active ingredient obtained by extraction and isolation from the inflorescences and aerial parts of hemp (Cannabis sativa L.). Indena uses registered


varieties of hemp with a THC level of less than 0.2% in accordance with European standards. It also guarantees a residual THC content of less than 0.02%, well below the limits defined by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and by DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration). This approach enabled Indena to promptly submit the DMF (Drug Master File) for this product to the FDA.

Maskne solutions supported by testing


With the increasing “Maskne” phenomenon and the requirement of anti-acne solutions, StratiCELL has decided to expand its range of in vitro testing related to Cutibacterium acnes. The in vitro testing provider opened last year its MicroBIOS Platform where its 3D skin models are colonised with living cutaneous strains such as Staphylococcus epidermidis, S. aureus and Cutibacterium acnes. To support its customers in defining anti-acneic properties, StratiCELL offers a double complementary testing approach: define the impact of cosmetic actives on the bacterial growth on one hand, and on the response of the epidermis to this inflammatory


context on the other hand. Colonisation by generates an inflammatory reaction which can be characterised in particular by an increase in interleukins and other pro-inflammatory molecules such as COX-2, TNF-alpha, or the defensin HBD-2. The ability of an active ingredient to reduce this inflammatory status can therefore be objectively assessed by monitoring expression of these key biomarkers, at the gene level and at the protein level. Generated data could clearly support the introduction of innovative actives fighting the C. acnes inflammatory threat on the dermo-cosmetic market.
