Shorter Cycles, Stronger Games FAZI Streamlines Development


Implementing standardised production models to reveal hidden inefficiencies, FAZI is on a mission to accelerate its development pipeline. Milovan Tosic, Chief Technology Officer, explains how his focus is shortening cycle time and improving the quality of the iGaming suite.


What differentiates FAZI's iGaming portfolio from industry competitors?


Because the company can draw on its extensive experience from the land- based sector, we understand our players. If you look at the iGaming markets where FAZI operates, the company was already present in the land-based domain. In the first stage of the business' development FAZI had full control of both hardware and software but, in expanding to iGaming, it lost control of the hardware because of the need to create games that can be played on different devices.


However, having that experience of creating the hardware is important and sets us apart. Another differentiator is the quality of our staff. Whilst it might sound cliché, it's true. Our employees position FAZI at the higher end of our industry competitors.


Across the product suite, where are you dedicating your time?


Well, I think it's driven on the iGaming side and mostly on making things run more efficiently. We want to increase the production and quality of our online games. Tat doesn't mean we aren't devoted to land-based, but when you talk about my specific focus, it's probably 80 per cent of my time is focused on iGaming. We try to be as competitive as possible when we think about where to focus.


We know there is a dependency on the number of games that we can produce, so we try to keep a balance between simple games, as we call it, and complex games that are more engaging with aspects that appeal to a younger demographic. Overall, the focus right now is predominantly on iGaming and mostly on the efficiency and quality of work in our engineering department and our technology operations.

Your previous full-time role within the gaming industry was in 2019. How has the focus around mobile optimisation changed?


From a technology standpoint, it's important for FAZI to follow all relevant metrics. We have significantly invested into our system to embed monitoring tools that gather metrics on how our games and systems perform on different devices. Based on this data, there are dynamic features within our games that essentially change how the game behaves on specific device on the fly. If you're using an older mobile device it's going to be a different experience compared to the newest iPhone or Samsung, but it'll still be smooth.


Are technology cycles accelerating?


A decade ago, speed was more important than the quality. Back then it was a case of get the product out the door and we can resolve the bugs later. Now there is more of a desire to keep the speed but increase the quality. Tat's been the crucial change I've observed in terms of software development.


What kind of efficiency processes are you working on? AI?


Tat is one of the aspects, better utilisation of AI, especially during game development. It's mostly about cycle time - the time that passes from an initial idea about a feature or game through to production and deployment. Tere are specific things that you have to do when engaging with a new idea - some proper POCs and initial designs through to the whole production process and finally to the deployment and release process where you engage with casino managers to position the game where it belongs.
