Careers @ Matravers (continued)
On the 8th March Year 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 took part in an event where they learnt about the variety of opportunities available once they leave school. They also received a variety of inspirational mini-talks from a selection of employees (some of which were Matravers School alumni!) whose careers ranged from the science and engineering sector, to the financial sector as well as the entertainment industry.
Year 10, 12 and 13 students welcomed the CEO of Aster Housing on 16th March. Bjorn Howard shared with students his career change and the pathway he took to reach the heights of Executive Director at Aster Housing. This was followed by information about careers and apprenticeships available at Aster Housing itself.
At Matravers, we offer 3 careers interview days to support students with researching a range of careers pathways, the application process and interview skills and techniques.
The Second of these interview days; the ‘Little’ interview for Year 9 students, took place on Thursday 22nd March. A large range of employees supported this event by interviewing students for a specific job chosen by the students. Each interview was followed by students receiving invaluable feedback relating to both their CV and also their presentation at the interview itself. A large number of students attended CV writing workshops and interview skills workshops with a representative from Job Centre plus in preparation for their interview.
We would also like to welcome Mr Creed, a Higher Education Advisor from Bath University to Matravers School. Mr Creed will be based at Matravers a couple of days per week offering careers support and guidance to some of our students.
In order to run the multitude of careers events Matravers School currently hosts we are always looking for employers and employees who may be able to give some of their time to help inspire the next generation.
