CCF (continued)

Concluding the Contingent Commanders Speech, Captain Fairnington thanked 2Lt Hervey for remarkable commitment to Matravers CCF over the last 3 years and presented her with a bouquet of flowers delivered by Cadet Rimmer on behalf of the Contingent. Dr Riding was then invited to say a few words, he spoke about the project of CCF and how impressed he is with its growth and consistency but addressing the cadets directly he said:

“Nothing gives me greater pride as a Headteacher than seeing you walking around the school on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons in your Uniforms. You represent your unit, your uniform and your school with passion and commitment. Your peers look to you for inspiration and guidance.”

This concluded the formal part of the mess dinner, the cadets were encouraged to relax their dress and enjoy the rest of their evening prior to carriages home.

memorable moment for all involved. We are extremely grateful to our affiliated regiment for their support and enthusiasm for our Contingent and its members. The helicopter remained onsite for the duration of the parade, which the cadets made the most of, with Charlie Section receiving a talk from the pilot.

Colonel Scott made his way around each member of induction, asking questions about their experience so far, why they joined the CCF and what they are planning to do in the future. He was extremely impressed with the turnout of the Contingent and the pride they carried being on parade on an extremely cold day. Concluding the parade, the Colonel presented the Contingent Eagle to Cadet Lewis Applegate in recognition of his excellent attitude, high personal standards, support of all Contingent events and his commitment to go above and beyond expectation.

Passing Out Parade Tuesday 27th February

We celebrated our recent recruits joining the Contingent in style at the end of February, having completed their induction training in January. We had to make sure we organised a formal parade with an external guest to recognise their progression into the Contingent. We invited and welcomed Colonel Scott, from our affiliated regiment 1 Army Air Corps based at RNAS Yeovilton. Colonel Scott had been in post from November 17 and took over from Colonel Rundle who visited us in October.

Arriving in a Wildcat Helicopter, immediately provided the occasion a

Following the presentation the cadets were dismissed to warm up and prepare their demonstrations for the second half of the passing out event. Colonel Scott was escorted away to provide time to set up and met with Captain Fairnington and Mr Solomons to talk about Matravers CCF and its future. During this discussion the Contingent were invited to Armed Forces Families day at RNAS Yeovilton on Wednesday 30th May. Where the cadets will get a flight in an aircraft and have the opportunity to run a stand for other guests attending the day.

Two demonstrations were organised for our guests to undertake, Alpha Section with 2Lt Hervey conducted the air rifle range. The Colonel and his Regimental Sergeant Major both took the opportunity to shoot and

were assisted by Corporal Smith and Lance Corporal Butt, both achieved an excellent grouping but not better than Lance Corporal Butts earlier attempt which was 9mm. Bravo Section provided an short First Aid demonstration of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation but became slightly bashful when answering some questions. The cadets provided enough evidence for the Colonel and his staff to see the quality of training the cadets receive and what they will take away from cadets as they move forward in life.

With the demonstrations finished the Contingent all made their way to the Wildcat on the school field to speak to the helicopter crew, sit in and have a play with the

helicopter. Wrapping up the event Colonel Scott provided a closing address, praising the Contingent for their great attitude, reminding the induction cadets that their passing out parade will be a moment they should remember, as he remembers his own.

The Wildcat crew and the colonel, the jumped into the helicopter launched the engine and waved goodbye to cap off an excellent event for the Contingent and School.

PARADE NIGHTS Since the turn of the year our parade nights have gathered momentum due to our structured but varied training programme. The cadets get to experience consistency in both content and high standard thanks to the Senior NCO and staffs planning.

Our newest cadets have been learning first aid and navigation skills in two alternating groups.
