CCF (continued)
During First Aid sessions, they have covered how to deal with an emergency, the primary survey, the recovery position, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, the secondary survey, minor and major bleeds, shock, fractures, sprains and strains and head injuries This knowledge allows the cadets to better support their community, families and each other when out on activities.
Camp, they have also been involved in a learning some basic kickboxing skills with Cpl Rymer, who visited from 1 Regt AAC to enhance our training plan. Cpl Rymer, stated he really enjoyed visiting the Contingent and the cadets made it easy to have a good session.
In their Navigation sessions, the cadets have covered skills involving the use of map and compass. Thus far, they have learnt about different types of map, the grid system, compass bearings, contours and elevation, how to measure distance and map orientation. This knowledge will provide the cadets the ability to effectively plan routes while on exercise or expedition, allowing the staff to push them to be independent when making decisions.
Our First Generation cadets who are in their third year with the Contingent, of whom most attended central camp last summer make up our group of cadet NCO’s. To enhance their effectiveness and ensure they possess the right skill set have been learning about Leadership and Command. They have looked at and identified their leadership styles, skills of an effective leader, command vs leadership and duty of being a cadet NCO.
We are very proud of the variety of activities the cadets participate in during parade nights and this is only a summary of their cadet syllabus nights. We look forward to seeing them display these skills with confidence during their upcoming residential camps and we are confident that these are skills that will benefit our young people away from cadets.
Our second generation cadets who are now in the second year with Matravers CCF (time flies so quickly!) have already completed First Aid and Navigation and are undertaking their Skill at Arms lessons in preparation for central camp at Okehampton this summer. Sgt Brown informs us that they are picking up the skills quickly and should be more than ready for

Our Congratulations to the above and we look forward to seeing them develop further.
SENIOR CADETS REPORT “At the end of term 2, the Contingent was invited to partake in a mess dinner in celebration of success from the past year. It was lovely to see all of the cadets enjoy the celebration and dress up nicely. It was a really successful evening and great to celebrate all the hard work since we started.
The Air Rifles are serviceable allowing all the cadets to have a chance at some target shooting. This means that everyone will be able to participate in the inter section marksmanship competition and other challenges ahead. We recently had a helicopter visit from our regiment in Yeovilton and our new cadets finally received their deserved cap badges.
It has been an enjoyable term and we hope for more.”
