YEAR 9

BATH UNIVERSITY FUTURES DAY On 31st January Mr Taylor and I had the pleasure of taking 30 students from Year 8 and 9 to spend the day at Bath University exploring the options available to them when they leave school.

During the day students got to explore the campus and were wowed by the facilities and courses on offer. They were able to meet and ask questions of current students from a variety of education establishments including a sixth form college, Bath Spa University and the university of Bath amongst others.

Our students also completed a session which helped identify personal strengths and skills. This culminated in a personality quiz where each student found out which animal they are most like. We had eagles, falcons, lions as well as puppy dogs! Students were stunned by how closely the descriptions related to them.

An information hunt saw students working as teams to gather information linked to various careers.

The students engaged well with the tasks and enjoyed their day. For many it was their first experience of university and they were intrigued to discover more about university life. Of course the highlight was the fluffy bugs awarded for answering questions and winning tasks!

As we approach the end of term 4 Year 9 are busy contemplating their futures as they engage with the options process and their preparation for the upcoming Little Interview. Alongside these activities students continue to impress their teachers and each week I am flooded with positives from subjects areas which are shared with students in assembly. Year 9 continue to fully immerse themselves in the wide range of extra activities available to them. The Year 9 contingent involved with CCF continues to grow, a large number of students have joined Dance groups and many have performed at West Wilts Dance Festival and the wonderful Dance in Action. The Business and Enterprise group promoted “romance” by selling and delivering roses for Valentine’s day and the Year 9 football team continue to demonstrate their dignity on

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION ASSEMBLY The end of another term was cause for much celebration in our Christmas rewards assembly. Students with excellent attendance, great progress and perfect behaviour were celebrated as were those who had been nominated by their subject teachers and tutors. Despite having an hour and a half to fill we struggled to fit all the rewards in! Amongst the celebrations each tutor group competed to win the tutor group games with rounds including gift wrapping a student, unwrapping presents whilst wearing oven gloves and a super loud rendition of 12 days of Christmas. As always the students enjoyed a couple of Karaoke numbers and were entertained by Leyton Scott and Alex Tilley performing Seven Nation Army and Shannon McGinn, Lucy Rudland and Issy Woodman who sang and played guitar. Both fantastic performances. It was great to see lots of students in their Christmas jumpers and volunteering to get involved by presenting subject awards.

Congratulations Year 9 – I’m looking forward to celebrating more positives in our Easter assembly.

the pitch (even when they are not winning!) The year group continue to impress me and I look forward to working with them as they approach KS4.
