Year 8 (continued)
The total is on going throughout the year but I believe at present we will reach our total of £600 throughout the year. Well done, a great achievement so far from the efforts so far. Also a well done to the Charity Committee that worked hard coming up with the ideas and did a lot of hard work behind the scenes to get the event off the ground. Well done to Aimee Duce, Gibril Connelly, Ethan Tugwell, Joe Hubbart, Alfie Waker, Katie Ware, Molly George, Alicia Renton, Jada Bonnick and Millie Collis.
Another event was the rewards trip which was bowling at Longwell Green Bowling Centre. The trip was devised to congratulate those with good attendance and
those who have had good feedback on their reports regarding behaviour, attitude and homework’s within lessons. The members of staff who accompanied the trip, no names mentioned on who used the barriers, were Mr Reeves, Miss Reeves and Mr Sainsbury and a big thanks to those who gave up their evening to allow the trip to run. Games of bowling, a meal and fun times in the arcade were had by all with Carla Spencer 147 with barriers, Oscar Thorne 121 with barriers and Todd Pearce 90 without, well done! Thanks to Mr Reeves, Miss Reeves and Mr Sainsbury.
Some of the Year 8s were involved in a trip to the University of Bath, which looked at future aspirations later on in life. Workshops included various learning styles, potential jobs and their potential earning power as well as the appropriate pathways needed to access University if pupils wish to do so later on after A levels. The most favourable part of the trip was by far the tours around the campus where the pupils could look at the superb facilities not only in the academic field but also the Sports Training Village the University has to offer. An activity which was the firm favourite was
speaking to and questioning existing students on the perks of student life. The pupils had a free reign of asking questions about financial issues, positives and negatives of living away from home and various other topics. All pupils were amazed by the size and the quality of the University and seemed to very much enjoy the experience.
“In the Bath University trip, we had to go through multiple workshops - one was basically a personality test with different animals as the end results which I quite liked doing - I was a seal, and there were quite a few eagles in my group. They also showed us some jobs you could get (some I didn’t even realize existed) and what qualifications you would need to get them. Another thing that I liked is that they didn’t just talk about stuff you could get at their university - they actually brought along some other people from different colleges and universities to tell us what their ones are like, and how different it is from school and how much more freedom you can get from it. But the part that I liked the most is that they took a tour around their University and they have a massive swimming pool (Olympic sized!) as well as a Starbucks and massive Library”

In regards to looking forward to the final two terms of the year once again there are many opportunities that will be presenting themselves. More visits and speakers to and from further and higher education providers as well as visitors coming into speak to the year group about future careers and potential pathways have been planned. The epic whirlwind event that is M-Fest is once again is being planned behind the scenes, the Easter celebration assembly is yet to occur but just around the corner as is the Summer one too in term 6. Further rewards trips are being planned as well as a plethora of sporting activities and opportunities outside the classroom will be presenting themselves for all to get involved in.
The drive our year group has to achieve, not just their academic goals, but those to better themselves through various means and methods is outstanding. I’m very much looking forward to what they can achieve within this academic year but also in the years to come.
Have a great Easter and well deserved break.
