HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE

YEAR 10 The Year 10 Health and Social Care group have been working on some promotional materials for anti-smoking week. Many have produced booklets and leaflets as well as fact files and a few have paired up to produce a power point presentation with a view to sharing in assemblies for lower school.

They have all done a great job!

A-LEVEL In January we were fortunate to have two speakers visit to explain how adults with autism are helped to live independently. Teresa Hibbs who is the manager brought with her Kate (one of the care users ) and they spoke to the A level Health and Social Care students about the care and support that is provided in Trowbridge. They explained why it’s so important to support autistic adults in developing their independence and making choices for themselves. Kate talked about her life which the students found really interesting. She talked about her mild learning disability as well as what it was like to be on the autistic spectrum and it was great to see that she could lead an independent life on the whole knowing that she has support when required.

Teresa spoke about the Care Quality Commission who regularly review and rate them ( a bit like schools and Ofsted!) and this will help the girls with their forthcoming assignments. We’d all like to say a big thanks to Teresa and Kate for giving up their time to visit us and hopefully the girls will achieve excellent grades in their coursework now.
