Year 10 (continued)

myself, Mrs Dovey and the tutors work hard at, as it is such a crucial time. Our punctuality is also excellent with one of the best rates in school, comparable to that of Year 7. We know that teenagers sometimes find it difficult to get motivated in the morning and the fact that they have maintained a sense of responsibility over this bodes really well for their future prospects. Good habits learned young often stick.

Ambitious Our careers programme continues unabated, with careers mentoring amongst a select group of students and as I write Year 10 have just had their share of National Careers Week magic, through presentations from people from industry. In addition to this and their ‘Big Interview, we’ve also taken trips to Bath Universities and Wiltshire College to give them as broad an idea as possible of what is available to them in the future.

The highlight of the year so far for me has been seeing our FLA (Future Leader’s Award) students learn together with students from Beechen Cliff School, in Bath. The initial phase is over and they’re now beginning their chosen projects in school, working with our younger students to improve literacy and grow confidence, their two chosen areas of focus. It’s not all plain sailing being a leader and they’ve had to work hard to get where they are. The process is designed not to just deliver on the projects they’ve designed the main aim is for them to reflect on their own efforts in coordinating various aspects of their programmes and I look forward to attending their graduation in May. I do hope some of you can join us for this.

One of the highlights for me is our Term 2 Celebration assembly, where we recognised those students who really have made a flying start to Year 10. Of course we had to squeeze in a bit of fun and games and healthy inter-tutor competition as well (perhaps the

less said about the fake snowballs the better) and we took the opportunity to say farewell to Miss Edwards, who had been with 10.2 since Year 8. However, our subs bench is always pretty strong and we welcomed the force that is Mr Feltham into our team and he has had a tremendous start, getting involved with our FLA student trips to Bath and diving straight into our tutor competition.
