Year 12 & 13 (continued)

FAIRFIELD COLLEGE YR 12 HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE STUDENTS

In order to help with the Year 12 HSC assignments I arranged a visit to Fairfield College so they could see how service users with autism are educated. It was really interesting to see all the students in their classrooms and obviously there were many differences to the style of teaching there; much smaller classes, more variety of practical studies such as animal studies as well as students running a small café and shop. The students were happy to talk about the activities they do and show us some of their creative art work. It was great to see that some of the students who board there are learning life skills to prepare them for the future. The small farm was lovely to look around and had pigs, alpacas and horses which looked

very content. We were lucky enough to have lunch with the students who take it in turns to work in the kitchen preparing it.

We all came away with the impression that Fairfield College is a supportive, friendly, happy and safe environment for students to excel in. Thanks to all the staff and students who made us feel very welcome.

6th FORM ICE SKATING CHRISTMAS TRIP

It seems like a lifetime ago now but one evening in December we took a group of students to Swindon Link Centre so they could do a bit of dancing on ice! Well at least that’s what they told us but they were a very mixed ability bunch! A lot of fun was had and it was a real treat at the end of a busy term to do some skating. Thanks to those who took part and we look forward to seeing improvements next time!
