LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE

LITERACY We had already gone to press when Joffre White came to visit at the end of last term. He completed a series of talks with year 7, 8 9 and 10 all about what he would be doing as Patron of Reading. These were really enjoyed by the students, who loved Joffre’s enthusiastic delivery.

In January, we had our first official Patron visit. He worked alongside our Year 13 A-Level students and some Year 9 students, helping them find a love of reading and supporting them with their creative writing. Joffre will be working with us for the whole of 2018 and we are looking forward to his next visit in May.

In addition to this, we have launched the Matravers independent reading bookmark which allows students to review the books that they are reading. If you have completed a book, why not share your review on the bookmark and hand it in to the LRC for others to read!

World Book Day Unfortunately, World Book day was disrupted by the snow this year. However, we had a fantastic turn out from the staff, with many of the

departments dressing-up. The theme was books by female authors because it is 100 years since females were given the vote.

The LRC has also been given a fresh new look and looks of new books have been ordered, so come have a look and see what we have got to offer.

Accelerated Reader Many students have made a fantastic effort with Accelerated Reader this term.

We have 6 word millionaires to announce. All of these students will receive badges in assembly.

The admin team were the winners with “Call the Midwife” and English came second with “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Humanities looked fantastic as “The Birds” and Science were Harry Potter. Once again the t-shirts designed by Art and Design were fantastic.
