KEEP SAFE

Matravers is dedicated to supporting all its students and educates and informs children so they avoid taking unnecessary risks or making bad choices. Substance abuse, which includes all alcohol and nicotine, can have lasting effects on children and young adults. Unfortunately, children are susceptible to peer pressure or led into poor habits by others, who may have hidden agendas. Furthermore, statistics show that:

Substance Abuse

• 90% of Class A drug users smoked in their youth. • 82% of drug users started with cannabis. • 64% of users will first try illegal drugs before they’re 18.

Primarily, the responsibility lies with parents to know exactly where their child is and make decisions which will keep the child safe. If there are concerns oversubstance abuse, supportive agencies and material is readily available.

For more information on new laws around psychoactive substances visit http://www.talktofrank.com/drug/new-psychoactive-substances

Motiv8 is agency we work closely with to support young people. Please contact us if you would like more information.

Finally, for information on drug and alcohol abuse use the website below. http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/public-health-drug-and-alcohol

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns. Students can always speak to a trusted adult within the school.
