The KS4 girls’ team once again competed at the County Finals in Tidworth for the 4th year in a row. This competitions sees the winners from the other 4 regions of Wiltshire compete for the title of County Badminton Champions. Previous competitions have seen the girls finish, 4th twice and 3rd last year. Tiffany Crockford-Ward, Ella Pearce, Millie Wells and Katie Blaxall, battled all day only losing one match against the eventual winners. The girls finished 2nd overall, only dropping 7 games out of a possible 25. This year we also took 9 officials who worked diligently to make sure that the tournament was fair but also enjoyable for all the players and supporters. Four officials were appointed team leader, continuing the standard set by last year’s tournament officials; Megan Redstall, Paige Adams, Dan Jones and Zach Pearce. Our other officials included, Joe Sanders, Joe Morse, Jake Dudley, Chloe Kinder and Hayden Bailey.

FOOTBALL

Year 7 Boys Due to the snow postponing the Year 7 Boys’ fixture against Beechen Cliff, only one fixture has been played in the last two terms. This said fixture was a tournament against Melksham Oak and Clarendon at Melksham Oak, whereby the schools played a round robin tournament, playing each other once.

First up were Melksham Oak. Matravers started slowly, conceding in the first couple of minutes. However, the boys fought back hard and the match ended 1-0 to Melksham. Matravers demonstrated good organisation to keep Melksham out and proving hard to be beaten.

The second match, against Clarendon, was similar in game play. Matravers worked hard defensively to not allow Clarendon to score, and also worked well as a team to attack. Matravers had several chances to go into the lead, however they were made to rue their misses as Clarendon scored a last minute goal, again resulting in a 1-0 loss.

Although two losses, the boys should be proud of their work ethic and their team spirit.

Year 8 The effort and attitude of the players so far this year has been superb no matter the results that have come our way. The results have been a mixture on wins, loses and draws from various different tournaments and games. There has been a large group of players which have been involved throughout the season so far which shows the depth and willingness of the year

group to play and compete against other schools.

A bitterly cold evening unfortunately saw a loss to John of Gaunt, in which the game was a closely contested competition, until the last ten minutes or so when we conceded a few goals in the last couple of minutes giving the game a slightly biased and unreflective score line. Some great saves from Sam Pym and Bradley Baker were of particular highlights from the game.

A round robin tournament held at Kingdown, with ourselves and St Laurence as guests, proved to hold a mixture of success. Loses for one team were counter balanced by draws and wins by another with great individual performances by Sam North and Jack Chalke. Dominance of some of the games was not always transferred into the score lines and greater confidence in front of goal converting possession into goals will eventually pay dividend. Similarly our hard work and efforts in other games were not truly reflected in the score line and flattered the opposition in some cases.

Our most recent game against St Augustines saw a great improvement in our playing ability and quality of Football. Hard work and determination from the likes of Jack Gilroy, Ethan Tugwell and Todd Pearce proved to be extremely valuable. Sam Bush also played extremely well and toiled well up front against a physical defence. Half time spoils were equal but unfortunately, two quick goals from St Augustines against the run of play proved too much. Matravers pulled a goal back from Jack Gilroy, however when pushing for the equaliser our defence was slightly
