News from HQ Simon Barber, Commercial Manager, CPSA CLA Game Fair review

NOW THAT THE dust has fi nally settled at Ragley Hall, the 2010 venue for the CLA Game Fair, we can all take a little time to look back on the event and breathe a sigh of relief that everything went to plan! With 144,000 people attending the show this year, our stand on Gunmakers Row was as busy as ever and the CPSA clayline under the management of Mike Williams attracted a lot of interest. Almost 700 visitors of all ages came along to ‘break a clay’ with the CPSA and all went away having enjoyed the experience. Many were completely new to clay shooting and having enjoyed it so much they either joined on the spot or took a pack away for further information. We always enjoy meeting existing members, as well as welcoming new ones during the three day show and the cost of attending is always justifi ed by being available to talk face to face with those looking to take up the sport, or who may have questions, ideas and suggestions to help make the Association even stronger and more effective as a membership organisation. This is the fi rst time the fair has been held at Ragley Hall, Warwickshire in 40 years and this excellent venue certainly played a major role in making this year’s event a memorable and successful one. Facilities were second to none and feedback from all exhibitors has been very positive indeed. Excellent weather

conditions helped visitors enjoy a full programme of activities across the extensive 500 acre showground.

CPSA at the Midland

Game Fair, Weston Park BY THE TIME you read this column the Midland Game Fair will be upon us and I hope you will fi nd the time to come along to meet us and enjoy this great annual event. For 28 years, this fair has provided one of the

UK’s fi nest showcases of country life, including the Mitsubishi World Series Clay Shooting and Gundog Championships. The results of the CPSA annual Prize Draw will also

be announced at the show and of course publicised on our website and in PULL! magazine's October issue. So be sure to check your number – you could be a winner!

Land Rover sponsored Champion of Champions

THIS IS THE second year the CLA have hosted the Champion of Champions event at the fair and as to be expected the build up and anticipation leading up to this competition created plenty of inter- county rivalry! Sponsored again by Land Rover, close run scoring was the theme towards the fi nals and the shoot off on the Saturday afternoon was again a very tight contest. This year saw

BSSC working with the CPSA

THE BRITISH SHOOTING Sports Council is an umbrella body representing all major shooting organisations in the UK, including the CPSA. We are often asked by members

whether we (CPSA) as a representative body for clay shooting are involved in promoting positive legislation for the sport and if so how we go about it. This is a fair question, especially in times when our sport is once again under scrutiny

due to events that are actually nothing to do with properly regulated shooting. The BSSC presents a unifi ed and cohesive voice, representing the views of all its membership to the Home Offi ce and other Government departments, including the Association of Chief Police Offi cers, the British Standards Institute and the Health and Safety Executive and it is seen as a primary consultee on any issue concerning the sport. It is also active at the

Richard Faulds MBE of Hampshire coming in third place, shooting a very creditable 36 out of 40, with Martin Doughty of Nottinghamshire and Oliver Baker of Wiltshire both achieving 37. The 10 bird shoot off was again very close with Oliver fi nally taking fi rst place. Well done to all our

international and region (EU) levels from where so much legislation now comes. As a key member of the BSSC our

views are best promoted through one body representing all interested parties. Constituent associations are: APCTSG, APSI, BASC,CA, CPSA, GTOA, ICSI, MLAGB, NRA, NSRA, SAGBNI, SST and UKPSA. We will be carrying an article in the coming months detailing the work of the BSSC more fully and we hope this will answer a number of questions you may have regarding the positive representation of our sport at the highest levels.
