Hi again Berkshire, I hope you’ve been enjoying the great British weather we’ve been having down here in the south. This month I would like to begin with some gloomy news and then end with the cheerier stuff so at least we can all finish with a smile our face. Sadly for the second month in a row I have to report of the sudden loss of another one of Berkshire’s shooting fraternity. Brian Rebbeck died without warning on Tuesday 6 July. As well as being a keen shooting man Brian was also a keen cricketer, his love of rough shooting and clay shooting had been with him from a lad and Brian was well known among clay shooters for his gentle and friendly manner. He was a regular competitor at Four Counties CTC, Tadley CSG, Hanson CTC

and Bisley and was more often seen with his close friend Wally Pope. Brian was one of the silent supporters of the Berkshire CPSA committee; he attended most county championships winning his fair share of titles and represented the county at regional and National Championships. The highlight of Brian’s shooting career was being a key member of the winning veteran team at the National Intercounty DTL Championship in 2003, the 75th anniversary of the CPSA. Our thoughts and heartfelt wishes go out to Brian’s wife Elizabeth and his other family members and friends.

I would also like to, at this point, offer my apologies to Barrie Woolford’s family and friends for spelling his name wrong when reporting of his death in August. OK, on to the results of the County Championships

which some of you have attended recently, firstly for Universal Trench, which took place at the NCSC on 11 July. This championship, although met with beautiful sunshine and some good scores shot on the day had a poor show of Berkshire members, but all of the Championship titles found worthy homes. Overall Berkshire UT Champion title went to Keith Kilvington, Chris Ricketts was the veteran Champion, Nicola Heron the ladies winner and young Simon Clark took the junior title. At the Olympic Skeet event, also held at the NCSC but later on in the month, 25 July, there was a better turnout of Berkshire shooters eager to test their skills on the ranges. At this event R Neville shot a great 92 to become the 2010 Berkshire Champion, Amber Hill took the Colts title on 63. In ladies Nicky Gryspeerdt, who

recently shot for England at the World Sporting event at Lakenheath bringing home a silver team medal, won the ladies Championship title with 76, many congratulations to all those recent county winners. Other news and results from around the big

events and International ones following on from Nicky Gryspeerdt’s England team silver medal, also come from Berkshire’s Adi Miles, who shot a highly accomplished fifth place score at the World English Sporting Championship at Lakenheath over the weekend of 10/11 July. His two scores of 80 on blue and 85 on red over the two separate one hundred target courses pushed him way up in the winners list with 165. Adi was delighted with the result and says it’s his best performance so far at this event. Another one of Berkshire’s sharp shooters has been busy collecting silver wear and also earning himself a very special team place for 2011. Chris Childerhouse will be appearing with the England Sporting senior team at next year’s World Championships scheduled to take place on the other side of the world in New Zealand in February. Chris recently received his official letter of notification into the five-man team after a year of exceptional hard work at selection to make the grade. He is understandably very excited about competing at the next World Championships at such a fabulous location. Chris also won the main 40-bird ‘Famous Grouse’ shooting competition at this year’s CLA Game Fair at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire at the end of July. The 40 target sporting event was staged over three days with plenty of entrants visiting the clay line, Chris shot an outstanding 40 straight to win
