ESK – Gordon Thomas Memorial
After a tense six man shoot-off at Lakenheath on 27 June, Essex Skeet shot Peter Stanton-Hope emerged as the overall winner of the Gordon Thomas memorial championship.
ESP – STOP PRESS – new Essex shoot A/R – County Championship
Attendances were down this year because the shoot clashed with the World Sporting championships at Lakenheath Clay Centre. It was a very hot day but still enjoyable and 41 attended the championship. Super vet Brian Farr started very slowly on the Sporting layout but ended with 50 straight on the DTL & ABT to finish a brilliant 89 and to take the vets title. Junior Lewis Steed shot the top Essex score of

DTL Bisley Gun Club 18 July 2010
A well attended day with 22 G/L shooters. Our day started out overcast and breezy, changing to hot, humid and sunny. Good targets meant shooters needed care not to be caught out by the breeze. An added social aspect was sharing the clubhouse with the Australian Rifle Club whose welcome humour added to the day. Thanks to Bisley G C for hosting the well run event.

Winners
SER Intercounties DTL 25 July – by Herts team captain Mick Terry An overcast day at Mayland GC, but good
targets, diligent refereeing and as efficiently run as ever at this welcoming ground. I couldn’t have wished for a better team with which to contest this event and this must surely be the best showing by the county in this discipline for some considerable time. After an indifferent start (only by the captain!), we knew we needed something special in the second

Good result for Kent in the double rise South of England
Kent’s Scott Collett gets high gun in the South of England Double Rise at Maylands (27 June) after a shoot-off with Billy Logan from Essex. Both Scott and Billy shot 49 in the first round and 47 in the second giving them equal first on 96. The shoot- off saw Scott win by one clay – Scott 9, Billy 8. Dave Amos was third overall (46+48=94) winning him the veterans title.

half. The team responded magnificently, the entire squad missing just two targets of the final 250 we shot at. A fantastic effort and enough to propel us to within a single point of the eventual winners. A single point! All credit to the victors from Sussex who just squeezed their nose in front by the narrowest margin possible, while we had to settle for runners-up – a very creditable result for a county which is so often humbled at this discipline. Many congratulations to the senior team, comprising James Cook, Brett Winfield, Paul Tumalty, Bernard Ambrose and myself, and our lady representative Ruth Ambrose, for a splendid day and a close fought competition. Nor did we leave empty-handed. The Ambrose household had additional reason to celebrate that

Congratulations to Brian Hodges who wins the Intercounties English Sporting veteran Championship at Southdown with a score of 88/100. This was also the highest A class score and 19th overall.
Report on the World Helice Championships in Spain
Having just travelled to Italy for the World Helice Championships, I am pleased to be able to say that in a very difficult competition, the GB team held their own. You would think Italy would be at the very least
evening, with Bernard clinching the South East DTL veteran’s title and daughter Ruth taking runner-up in the ladies competition. A fitting end to the day and well done to both.
Commentary
What a result by our DTL ‘Dream Team’. Why Mick has kept his light under a bushel for this long beats me. Leadership obviously played a part in our success and Mick has what it takes in spades so I hope we can count on him to fill the role next year. Please show your appreciation when you see him around the circuit, it is well deserved. As for the rest of the team a hearty well done and let’s have more please!
sunny – if not hot! But suffice it to say we had one hot day, thunderstorms, hail stones the size of marrow fat peas and wind and rain that Britain would be proud of. However, our team pulled out all the stops.
Unfortunately, the Senior team only managed fourth place, but the ladies team and defending champions came first again, taking three gold medals, with team captain Dionne Rogers taking the individual bronze medal as well. Our top scorer and junior competitor, Jack Tucker, after a very difficult shoot-off, took the individual silver medal. He shot his socks off!!! In the run up to the main competition several GB competitors won significant amounts of money, ie Brian Metson, Henry Arnold, Peter
