Happy clappers DT Super Final

Ponedelnikova. Sian, as ever, appeared fairly calm with her win, but with a grin she did think it was ‘cool’, especially winning the Euros! Sian Bruce, Cerys Evans and Hannah Gibson also took the team silver medal. The Skeet men’s team consisted of Craig Lakey, Drew Christie and Malcolm Allen. Drew shot a fantastic fi rst day, but it only took the loss of the odd target to drop down in such a strong fi eld. Rory Warlow, for the Skeet junior men maintained the standard set by the other juniors and added gold to the medal haul. Lying joint fourth with three others at the end of day one, there was all to play for on the second day, and that is exactly what Rory did, putting in a very business like 50 straight, giving a one target advantage going into the fl ash fi nal. That was all he needed, leaving Stefan Nilsson of Sweden and Italian Angelo Moscariello in silver and bronze. Rory: “It’s justifi ed all the hard work and given me a real sense of achievement to have such a major feather in my cap during my last year of juniors”. And then there were the Super Finals, the culmination for each discipline, where chaos reigned! The crowd was let loose with vuvuzelas and clappers, and encouraged to make as much noise as

possible, which they did with aplomb! It made no difference who was about to shoot, hit or miss, friend or foe, the crowd went into full cry – it was the most amazing atmosphere, good for shooting to be seen to have fun!

This is how it worked: The top three from the seniors and juniors, women and men, were invited to shoot a Super Final for their discipline, but each Super Final had a twist; the sad bit being teams were not notifi ed in advance, so many of the women missed out as they had left after their competition. For trap, the fi nalists were split into two squads, shooting ten targets, one from each peg having a left and right target and then repeated, the winner from each squad then shot single barrel sudden death. Double Trap was probably the hardest, with random pairs being released manually from scheme A, B or C, this was sudden death from the start. And for Skeet, it was pegs three, four and fi ve, the twist being the pairs on three and fi ve had to be shot in reverse. It was a great way to fi nish a competition, with the shooters really getting into

fl ow. Our fi nalists didn’t win, but put up a good fi ght, especially as there were Euros to be won! Very well done to them all! For full results please see www.issf- sports.org.
