Promatic World Sporting SPONSORED BY

Home Nations on top of

the World

Don Brunt reports from the Promatic World Sporting Championships at Lakenheath.

Paul Simpson in the fi nal shoot-off

in Sporting, including last year’s victor George Digweed who was hoping to win his 17th world title. As usual Pete Usher and his staff had worked tirelessly to prepare the ground, along with Promatic who had supplied the ever reliable traps. This year’s ammunition sponsor Hull Cartridge were pleased to provide Pro One cartridges as prizes for those making in onto the podium and for every competitor entering the ‘Prelim Sporting’. Hull’s sponsorship is once again gratefully received and over the years the company has been an exceptional supporter of CPSA events.

36 shooters from 13 countries travelled to the Suffolk ground to do battle for the most prestigious title

The ‘trade village’ was populated this

year by Alan Rhone of Krieghoff, Ruag Ammotec (Perazzi), Macwet Gloves, Stephen J Fawcett (Zoli) and Custom Made Ear Protection, all of which added signifi cantly to the interest at this week long event. Photographer Don Brunt was also on hand to take pictures of teams and the individual shooters. Of course, the preparation work took in

much more than just the main competition. There were also the prelim events which included a two day 150 bird FITASC and a prelim Sporting event that would run concurrently with the World Sportrap competition. The action kicked off on Wednesday with the FITASC, which was run over six

layouts set by John Dyson, spread around the usual Lakenheath grounds. As one would expect the diffi culty level of the targets was high and only 12 straights were recorded amongst the 600+ shot. Those who started early in the morning

had a slight advantage in that skies were overcast, and the temperature pleasantly cool. Sam Green was amongst the fi rst to shoot and he got his campaign off to a steady start, shooting a 23 which he then followed up with a 20 and a 24. Paul Wilkinson also started well with a 24, but we weren’t having it all our own way, Gebben Miles of the USA starting straight whilst countryman Brad Kidd shot a 24 on his fi rst parcour. By the close of play on day one things were pretty tight at the top
