County Championships East Yorkshire Gun Club hosted our OT championship on 11 July and what a closely fought competition it was. Both John Winn and Nigel Watson had competed in the English Open ABT the previous weekend and finished within a couple of points of each other and they continued in the same vein for our OT championship. At 75 the contest was still very much open between the main contenders, Nigel and John, and both looked set for a good score but both collapsed on the last round so neither were confident of victory without consulting the scoreboard, which confirmed that Nigel was ahead by just one point on 83 leaving John to take the veteran’s title.
before Paul emerged the outright winner. Malcolm Craven’s 86 was at the top end of the scoring and gave him AA and veterans. Ross won A Class, Billy won B Class and juniors, and John Hall won C Class with 69. Tracey Bridge was well ahead in the ladies field with her score of 77 to take the ladies title. The Lincolnshire all round team are Paul Wilkinson, Billy Caton, Will Caton, Dale Houghton, Richard Pettit, Mike Burton, Pete Clements and Mark Cumberlidge. The veterans team is Colin Marsh, Trevor Back, Colin Chester and John Hall. The ladies team is Tracey Bridge and Jan Stennett. The following weekend it was back to East

host the all round championship. A stiff breeze gave more than one or two shooters a hard time and combined with a fairly tough Sporting section meant that there were some disappointing scores for some. Not so for the contingent from East Lincolnshire. Maybe they are used to all those offshore breezes down on the coast but Paul Wilkinson, Ross Ingamells and Will and Billy Caton were not at all perturbed. Paul, a member of this year’s England sporting team, shot on one of the early squads and was straight at 75 with the sporting to shoot but finished on a disappointing (for him) 91. Ross, also shooting early, also returned a score of 91 with Billy and Will on 89 and 85 respectively. By the end of the day 91 still had not been beaten, but as both Paul and Ross had left the ground a subsequent decider was needed

Norfolk DTL: With quite a few of the Norfolk shooters attending the Beretta shoot on Saturday 3 July, there were only 29 entries for the Norfolk DTL and Basil Pearce memorial shoot. Karl Hagan shot the only 100/295 to take the championship title including the Basil Pearce trophy. Roger Gillson was top veteran 94/277, Buster Dagless is competing well to take junior 88/257. There were no Norfolk ladies. Mrs Pam Pearce presented the trophy to Karl and thanked those attending. Norfolk Skeet: Saturday 24 July and 45 shooters
attended the Norfolk skeet. Taking the DTL with 100 Karl Hagan then went on to shoot 100 straight, but he was not alone as Philip Thorrold shared the glory, but only as far as the prize money was

Let me first start with an apology to Northants shooters for the lack of article for August. For my sins, I was in Scotland supporting my wife shooting small bore target rifle and my delegate substitute managed to acquire a computer virus, thus no submission.
52 | PULL! September 2010 Sunday, 4 July saw the Northants shooters arrive
at Northampton Shooting Ground to fight for the 2010 English Sporting Championships. The sun was shining, the wind was blowing and Roy and Pete had set a tough course for the day. Early on, Mark Massey set a blistering 95 to set the pace and even he thought it would be beat. As the day progressed and the scores came in, Mark went off to win another shoot, before returning for the prize giving. Whilst he was away, Mo Sentance put in a winning score of 70 for the ladies title, Ashley Sharman secured the
juniors and Mick Tee secured the veteran title with a super 86. Mark Massey’s wait was rewarded, as nobody could beat his 95 and he secured the Northants County senior Championship. Ladies seem to be the winners recently, in National
and now Regional championships. Again on 4 July, in the East Midlands Skeet Doubles Championships, Northants committee member Bex Lee won the ladies Championship in some nasty wind affected clays. Bex has won other East Midlands Regional medals before, but this gold medal was elusive. Well done

Yorkshire for the ABT championship and yet another battle for the top slot between John Winn and Nigel Watson. This time it was John’s turn to be one point ahead, his score of 96 giving him the overall title and veterans. Nigel’s 95 gave him B Class and Robin Wade took A Class with 91. A plethora of 86s meant a shoot-off was needed to decide C class. The contenders were Trevor Back, Steve Bridge and Brian Drewery and Brian emerged the winner on 22. The ladies winner was not a surprise in itself as Jackie Houghton is well capable of winning a championship in a variety of disciplines, but a score of 90 surprised even her. The junior winner, on a score of 93, was also no surprise as Jack Wilkinson has just gone from strength to strength this year. Jack, who has just turned 16, was part of the winning England DTL junior team at the recent Home International and is looking to make it a double by securing a place in the ABT team also. The Lincolnshire ABT team are Nigel Watson, Nick
Pearce, Dave Sipling, Robin Wade, Brian Wilkinson and Paul Aslett. The veterans team are John Winn, Rob Richardson, Derek Olivant and Dave Shepherd. The ladies team are Jackie Houghton, Jan Stennett, Alison Dupree and Tracey Bridge. The junior team are Billy Caton, Jack Wilkinson and Andrew Hrynyk.
