Bex! Our best wishes go with Bex for the English Open SKD at Northampton in August.

Bex Lee

Nicky Brocklesby, on a mission to make her mark. In the end, 91 (the equivalent to a GB Olympic MQS) won her the championship, with Andrew Lea making a stunning charge on 88, to take runner up. Our best wishes to Nicky for the ISSF Championships at the end of July in Munich, where she hopes to achieve her MQS (and even an Olympic quota place) from a World Cup event.

Regions

Unfortunately, no juniors this year, but they are probably concentrating on the other disciplines. We are getting into the Regional Intercounties season now, with East Midlands All Round, Sporting and DTL all probably been held as you read this article. Remember we have English Skeet, ABT and FITASC in September and October and of course the National Intercounties Skeet being held at Northampton in October. I expect we will have a full set of teams for that, selected from the performers at the county and East Midlands Intercounty shoots. On a completely different subject, our newly

Sue Bate has just reported back from the English ABT Championships, being held again on 4 July at windy Southern Counties in Dorset. In a field of 91 competitors, Sue tied for runner-up lady and after a shoot-out, secured the bronze medal in the ladies English ABT Championship. Last year at the Olympic Skeet championships,

the running of the event was challenged by a number of shooters. This year Bob Meadows, our own ISSF Judge and British Shooting OSK, OT and DT Referee took charge. Even with a major trap breakdown, that Pete and Roy handled very professionally, the shooters were very happy with the officiating. In the end, nobody could touch

County ABT

The Nottinghamshire ABT was held at Nottingham & District GC on 25 April with a poor turnout of just 11 shooters representing our county. Mick Feather set the pace on the first round by posting a 25 straight, closely followed by the likely lads Russ Hufton and Paul Meakin on 24. Paul the champion for the past two years was in good form but couldn’t stop Russ who eventually got the better of him and finished with a brilliant 96 to take the title. John Bates retained his Veterans title with a winning score of 90. Luke Bartle shot very consistent to take the Juniors on 89.

Northampton Shooting Ground held the Beds, Cambs and Northants County DTL championships on 24 July and again it was close at the top. Outside the county, Beds shooter Kevin Parsons put in a 99/291 for the best shoot of the day, but in Northants, Steve Smith snuck in with 98/290 over Roy Tyler’s 99/289, both great scores! In the Northants ladies, Issy Thorogood (Go Issy!) beat the two rivals of Mo Sentance and Rose Palmer. Tony Clayton rounded off the medals in the vets, with a score he was not happy with of 95.

played host to the County DTL championship. The event was spoilt with dreadful weather that resulted in low scoring for all. Ken Rimington managed to return to the clubhouse dripping wet with a 286, remarkable considering the conditions. This gave Ken the overall championship along with the veterans. Curtis Woolley retained his junior trophy from last year and would like to thank people for offering to lend him a gun for the day as his was being repaired. Freddie Brown just lost out in the Juniors but didn’t go home empty handed as he won the C class cup.

qualified and seasoned referees are making themselves known in regional, national and international circles. At the recent World Sporting event at Lakenheath, Tony Clayton, Roger Bonner and Bob Meadows all refereed and Tony acted as chief referee for the finals. Catherine Foster has been out shadowing at Sporting Targets, in preparation for her first outing and Bex Lee has been not only refereeing, but with Bob Meadows has been invited to referee at the upcoming Home Countries International in English Sporting at Barrow Heath. To all the referees that volunteer to put something back into the sport, you deserve our thanks (and yes I think there was the tiniest chip of that clay!) So good luck for the back end of the season and hope your shooting keeps improving.

on the day and left him the 2010 Skeet champion. The ladies was hotly contested this year with four entrants. Kim Islip managed to hold on for the win giving her the title for the first time. Juniors was also a tight affair with Curtis Woolley

edging out Joe Booth by just a single clay. Joe didn’t go home empty handed as he picked up the win in the colts category. A special mention must go to Pete Hicken who shot fantastically to win the C class cup. Thanks again to Carl and his team for their excellent work.

County DTL On Monday 3 May Nottingham & District GC

The Nottinghamshire County Skeet took place on 23 May at a scorching hot Notts & District GC. This attracted a huge turn out of competitors for the championship. Kevin Holliday, the first competitor of the day finished with a 98 after losing two targets on his third layout. This set a high standard for the rest of the field to try and beat or match. Roger Ball and A Snell both challenged the 98 but fell just short with 97 each. Another strong challenge came from John Miller, a seasoned Skeet shooter who was straight at the 50 mark. Unfortunately John couldn’t keep his form going and faded throughout the last 50 to end on 95, which secured him the veterans title. Kevin Holliday’s early score proved unbeatable

Once again the Handicap by Distance was contested for on Monday 31 May. Seven County shooters attended in an attempt to claim some silverware for the mantelpiece. This championship also gave us our first shoot-off this year for a County Championship between Lee Clements (A Class) and young Freddy Brown (C Class). With both shooters being in different classes they had to shoot-off separately. Lee was first to shoot and completed his round on 67 points. Freddy was next up and was level with Lee with five targets left to shoot. Freddy second barrelled a target to give Lee the winners shield. Freddy Brown did have the consolation of winning the junior championship though. Well done to both shooters. The veterans championship was won by Ken Rimington (AA Class) and was presented with the George Rook Memorial Shield by Andrew Willimott in memory of his great uncle.

County Single Barrel

The Nottinghamshire Single Barrel Championship was held on Sunday 20 June at Nottingham & District GC. Altogether there were 56 entries, 17 of which being from the Notts area. This year’s entries are considerably down on last year and this event continued the trend. Big Russ Hufton followed on from his ABT win with a solid 97 to take the championship and high gun. The junior, veteran
