Denise Humphrey (ladies’ captain) & Paul Hodges (veterans’ team) returned from the DTL Home International in Scotland with two medals each. Neither has ‘blown their own trumpets’ so I know little more except that they had to contend with very difficult conditions. Congratulations to them both! Who else has represented England or GB?

It will be held on Saturday 25 September at Wedgnock Shooting Ground, Warwick, by kind permission of Steve Richardson of Adventure Sports Ltd. It is an introductory day for absolute beginners only and is free of charge. This is made possible by sponsorship from Anthony Evans (Claverdon Cartridges) and the West Midlands CPSA committee. The day will be a ‘taster’ including shooting targets under the instruction of experienced coaches plus advice on how to get started for those who wish to do so. You are invited to introduce that friend or relative who has always wondered what you get up to! However numbers are limited and attendance is by advance booking only. To make a booking call either David Boylan (07957 965541) or Paul Fallon (07966 010353).

Skeet Doubles
A very strong westerly wind blew round Oxton with an almost constant dust cloud resembling something sent from Iceland meant for a testing day and any thoughts of enhancing your average or classification or recording a personal best were soon blown out of the water upon first viewing of the wind effected targets. Rennie Lowbridge from Notts set the pace with
an amazing 93 considering the conditions on a day where most of the 21 entrants hopes were dashed on layout one as targets leapt into the air or dived for cover. One of the last squads of the day contained three worthy hopefuls, England International Johnny Hall, last year’s Champion Steve Smith and recently crowned East Mids Skeet Champion from Cambridgeshire Chris Morris. Chris amazingly raised the bar and put the title out of reach with a score of 96, a total that was worth a ton or more on any other day, Renee was pushed back into the silver medal berth, but still claimed the vets title with another local man Adrian Snell completing the final position with a bronze medal winning score of 91. A trio of ladies fought over the spoils and it was Bex Lee from Northants just doing enough to take the gold medal. Rachel Willcock from Leicestershire showed she was multi talented as she won the silver medal only a few weeks after winning her first medal in the Regional

29 October is the date and the venue is one of the district’s finest restaurants, the Butchers Arms, Priors Hardwick, between Southam and Daventry. Yes, it is a long way for some people to travel (including me) but you are assured of a sumptuous dinner for £25, about half the usual price! I’ll do my best to seat you with friends and there will be no speeches! We are hoping to include music and dancing for those who like it, but those who do not need not worry – it will not destroy conversation at the table as it will be in a separate room. BOOK NOW – we expect to sell out quickly despite reserving more seats this year. Call me for tickets on 07906 355065.
Paul Hodges won the Single Barrel Championship at Kibworth with a fine 99 on yet another windy day when almost everyone struggled and few managed to break 90 – Paul also took the vets. Denise Humphrey took the ladies’ title with a strong score of 91 and the junior title went to Tom Galliford on 81.
Sporting at Kibworth and Hazel Whiten from Cambridgeshire completed the medal placings by taking the bronze. With Rennie winning the vets title the second place spoils went the way of yet another Camb’s shooter Tony Randall, with a score of 83, Tony Sockett from Leicestershire completed the 1-2-3 to

The Olympic Skeet event attracted only three entries! Craig Lakey is the new champion with Stuart Thomas taking the veterans’ title. Let us hope for a few more entries next year – it is a difficult discipline and doesn’t have a huge following but OSK is available at several reasonably local grounds and offers the opportunity of full GB honours for those who stick at it. Why not give it a try?
Arnie Palmer’s fine 92 was enough to win the English Sporting championship at Honesberie – and this one was well attended. David Pryce took the veterans’ title with 69, Rachael Ingram (73) the ladies’ and Ryan Sperling (72) was junior champion.
The English Skeet Championship, again held at Riverside, was fully booked over a month before the event! The title went to Nick Marsden (99) with Tina Tullet taking the ladies’, John Batchelor the vets’ and Ryan Sperling the juniors’. I have only Nick’s score to date. How about some Skeeters moving on (I won’t say up) to Olympic?
The Dtl Championship was another affected by the ‘draughty’ weather at Kibworth. Champion with a score which disappointed him was Matt Wileman (289), Paul Hodges, just one point behind, had to be satisfied with the vets, Denise Humphrey took the ladies’ and Tom Galliford the juniors’ (scores not to hand). There was a disappointing turn out at this event, possibly becuase it was on the same weekend as the ESK – we’ll try to avoid clashing next year though the calendar becomes increasingly crowded.
Please note FITASC date change – due to unexpected events the original dates were changed. The change was published last month but in case you didn’t notice, here it is again – it will be held on 18/19 September at Honesberie (Watergall) – shoot either day but telephone entries ONLY to Nick Hollick on 07973 839844.

take the bronze to add to his recently acquired collection.
Sadly only one junior Joe Booth from Nott’s took up the challenge of the day, but his score of 82 was still going to be hard to beat and he should be proud that his score more than compared with that of many senior shooters.
